Obituary

August 12, 2015

Pamela Hamilton, 35, returned to her heavenly home on August 10, 2015 after a valiant battle with Lupus. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace.

Pamela was born to Albert and Cora Hamilton, in Laurel, MS on February 2, 1980. She was immersed in the Christian community that would be her lifelong support from an early age.  She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and joined Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church in Raleigh, MS.  She was active with the Assimilation Ministry at her current church home, Elizabeth Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA.

Pamela graduated from the University of Mississippi in 2002 with a degree in English and Journalism.  She then continued to earn her Masters of English from the University of North Carolina.  Pamela had a passion for writing and often used her talents to help family and friends in editing documents.  She truly loved her writing career which started while in college at the Daily Mississippian and allowed her to work at the New York Times, Associated Press, CNN, and finally, Thomson Reuters.  In addition, Pamela enjoyed traveling, theatre, and cooking.

Pamela was blessed with a large and loving family.  She is survived by her parents, Albert and Cora Hamilton, sister - Melissa Hamilton, grandmother - Nellie McLaurin, uncles, aunts, and cousins. Pamela also leaves to cherish her memory, a collection of friends, church family, sorority sisters, and co-workers. She is dearly missed by loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is at peace with her creator.

Funeral services for Pamela will be held at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church located at 2768 SCR 101, Raleigh, MS 39153 at 2:00 pm on August 15, 2015.  Reverend Randy Hamilton will officiate the service.   There will also be a Memorial Service held at Elizabeth Baptist Church located at 4225 Cascade Road SW, Atlanta, GA 30331 on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations are made in Pamela's honor at www.lupus.org.
