His Life

It's a BOY! August 15, 1961

April 25, 2014

To our dear Paul Gregory,
God has given us another wonderful son.
You came into this world on a Holy Day "Feast of the assumption of our Blessed Mother" August 15, 1961 at 20:25 (8:25 P.M) AT the 42nd Field Hospital in Verdun, France.
( Verdun, France, the famous battle ground of World War I.)
Dad is a Sergent in the army stationed here at Verdun for 3 years now.
Dr. Glenn Shaw delivered you, a wonderful obstetrician; and it was a good delivery.
You are a very healthy 8lb-9.5oz boy. Dad, baby sis (Mary), and baby bro (George) came to the hospital to bring us home.
You have a wonderful disposition, loveable and happy. Lots of spirit and spunk too!
You were given the name Paul in honor of our dear priest friend, Father Paul Heinzmann. Father Heinzmann prays for us daily and remembers us in many of his masses. We have a great friend to help us get to heaven. Your god parents are Dr. and Mrs. Alvin Knudson, Grandma Bunn's cousins, living in Washington D.C. He is National director of Veterans Admin. He has promised to pray for you daily.

                           Recalled memories of France

It has been an interesting 3 yrs. here in France.
Our neighbor, the Major has hired a french nanny, ( Madame ) to care for his two children. Madame has been my coffee friend, she does not speak English, but she makes me understand her french. I love her. The french in general do not care for Americans- France has been a battle ground for many many years. Americans come and fall in love with their daughters and take them to America. We live on the army base - we live in Bevaux army Housing- at duplex #30. We have a 42nd field hospital. We are located 70 miles from Paris, France.

                            State-side Bound

At 9 months old  we traveled back to the USA, arrived safely home to Rockton after: a 20 hour plane ride, followed by 10 days in the army hotel in Fort Dix- to your 2nd home at 125 Bunn Dr., the house Grandma and Grandpa Bunn prepared for us.

** The headlines in the paper "Stars and Stripes" 8/15/61 were about the communist construction of the Berlin Wall. ( How ironic that today, April of 2014 Russia's Pres. Putin is invading Ukraine.)

** Pretty Little Angel Eyes by Curtis Lee is the #1 song the week you were born
