Working on the Chain Gang

January 16, 2021
For several years, I had the fun of organizing the chain crew for the local football games. This included the era when my son was playing, which was a rather magical time in Dobbs Ferry football that was the stuff of legends. Paul was a stawart supporter of the team and attended most of the games, which included watching his son Zac and my son Michael play. He often volunteered to do the chains with me, which always meant great conversation and commentary throughout the game. I have always been a person who is more interested in cheering with encouragement, as compared to the too many fathers who seemed to "cheer" by criticizing any time that the team or a player failed at heroics. Paul's approach was always enthusiasm and support. Maybe with the one exception that he did call out when he felt that the refs got it wrong. We had a great time together and I value those memories.
