Who is that gracious lady that lives over by the way?
Whose gentle way and disarming smile greets you every day.
Whose meek and quiet spirit welcomes you consistently,
With a heart of gold and kindness, lives so unassumingly.
Who is that gracious lady that lives over by the way,
Who sings the hymns of Zion and always loves to pray.
With a friendly disposition and a happy attitude,
Simple faith and loving God in peaceful solitude.
Music fills her grateful heart and soothes her weary soul,
With comfort & joy from the Lord above who makes her body whole.
Who seeks understanding and wisdom to live abundantly,
And overcome every challenging battle triumphantly.
Now she is gone on to her reward to live eternally.
To be with loved ones who left before her, now permanently.
So whenever you go by Spillman Road, in Cumberland, V - A,
Remember that gracious lady that lived over by the way.

Music ...Sweet Music
Despite never being professionally trained, Mom could play any song she liked free of sheet music with ease..being naturally gifted with a tuned ear for the right tempo...she played her favorite Gospel songs for hours and would harmonize vocally along with it. From childhood, I recall easily how during her free time...she would play dozens of songs...one of her favorites being..."Holy, Holy". She taught me how to play that song as well after I asked her to show me the notes on her upright organ at our home in Roanoke, Virginia. I then, developed a strong interest in music because of my mother. But when she played ...I couldn't help but pay attention ...no matter what I was doing. So humble about her own talent and ability, she only played on one known occasion at church that I can recall with my grandmother, Nannie Cook accompanying her with singing. But 'til this day, I still have a vivid memory of her performance filling my heart with joy.
