Leah who was almost 2 and I went to visit Uncle Jay and Aunt Doris while Rex was in Germany. Leah was hungry and so they gave her a plate with peas on it. They both sat there mesmerized and watched her enjoy the food. I think they were practicing for when they had grandchildren of their own. I know they made very special and loving grandparents and parents. Thank you for the privilege of sharing memories that to this day make us smile and laugh, Uncle Jay Love Rex , Anne, Leah, Alixis, & Alysia
Mentoring
This is Lyn, the Eldest Daughter.
When I graduated from Catholic grammar school (8th grade) and headed to high school, Daddy sat me down for a relaxed but important Father-Daughter chat. He pointed out that I would soon be faced with many ethical decisions. These would be difficult, and I would make mistakes. He would be at my side No Matter What. Not for one second should I EVER doubt this. When the inevitable time arrived, he would only need one hint: Did I need a Friend? A Daddy? A Lawyer? He would wear the hat required. "If I am your 'lawyer' no one else will ever ever EVER know of our conversation. Not Mama, not anyone." We would figure it out together.
This safety net provided enormouse security in the decades ahead. I hope my own children trust me half as much as I trusted my beloved Daddy. (And my Mama, which is a story for another day.)
