Rachel Tollie Gourley, 90, a longtime resident of Stem, passed away Friday, January 9, 2015 at her home.

A native of Sylva, NC, she was the daughter of the late James Tollie and Lillie Seay Tollie. She was born on June 17, 1924. She was a member of Hyatts Chapel Baptist Church in Cherokee, NC and attended Concord Baptist Church in Creedmoor and was a homemaker.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 12, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Eakes Funeral Chapel in Creedmoor by the Rev. Dale Wallace of Mt. Airy, NC. Burial will be in Creedmoor Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service from 12:30 to 2:00 PM at the funeral home and other times at the home.

Surviving are her daughters, Lillie Hall (David) of Florida, and Shirley (Billy) Ellington of Stem, NC., a sister, Irene Davis of S.C., brothers, Arby and John of S.C., and Dewey and Dick of Sylva, NC., seven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harrison Gourley and a daughter, Bessie Wilkerson.

Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to the Bus Fund of Concord Baptist Church, 2509 East Lyon Station Rd, Creedmoor, NC 27522.

Knowing Granny Gourley and her family has been a real pleasure and I appreciate the love they have given to my sister and her sons when they became part of their family. She was truly a joy to know and her family is a true tribute to her and her love for her family.
