In Memory of Ralph Kumar

July 15, 2012

God put us all in this world, not only to enjoy his bounty but to make sacrifices as well.  Mr. Kumar has undoubtedly demonstrated these qualities over and over, even when doctors told him to take care of himself, he somewhat thought the doctors meant others.  He went above and beyond the call of duty to meet the needs of others, even in his final days.  Mr. Kumar did not sit at home waiting for others to assist him because he was fragile, instead he was assisting others.

A few days before Mr. Kumar’s final hours, he insisted to drive my sister to the airport to pick up my brother, and no one could have said no to him. At time, he would grab my nephews and niece, take them for a drive, and then to PopEyes without the mother’s knowledge just to have them all to himself.  He even felt obligated to give his visitors a ride home just to ensure that they are safe.  This is a man with a big heart who deserves paradise.  God said Mr. Kumar you are giving much more than I asked you to without asking for much in return.  So God took Mr. Kumar on Jan 11, 2012, so that He could inherit his good deeds in heaven.

A famous writer once said “We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give”.

Mr. Kumar lived a remarkable life, one that inspired me greatly. Not only has he proudly served his country but he opened his home to many.

Mr. Kumar pursued his many endeavors diligently, and always rose to meet a challenge.  I always felt that he expected the same of others.  He was philosophical in his approach to life.  He especially had a great perspective when it came to the little things, never displaying anger or impatience. Instead, he showed great dignity and humor.  He extended this philosophy no matter what obstacle he faced.  I have always admired this trait, as it doesn't seem to have been handed down. His adventurous attitude, his broad range of interests, and his happy manner made him a wonderful person to know.  He was patient, and generous with his time and affection.  He always took an interest in the people he met: there were few people he wouldn't engage at any time or place. The strength of his character showed even in criticism.  With a few wry words, Mr. Kumar could be far more damning than most people could achieve with any strong language.

I'll miss the stories of his military experience, his achievements and about his old friends and family. Stories he told again and again, in the same exacting detail with every telling.  I'll miss his perspective and his gentle humor.  I'll miss the surprising depth and scope of his knowledge.  I'll miss the warmth he extended to everyone he met.

 “After Glow”  for Mr. Kumar

I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one.
I'd like to leave an after glow of smiles when life is done.
I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing times, and bright and sunny days.
I'd like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun of happy memories that I leave when life is done.
Today I'm Free.
God sent me to serve an important role and I have done so with dignity, and God is taking me to a better home.
Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free, I'm following the path God has laid you see.
I took His hand when I heard him call, I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day, To laugh, to love, to work, to play, to watch the children.
Tasks left undone must stay that way, I found that peace at the close of day.If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, little children, Oh yes, these things I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow, I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life's been full, I relished much - Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief,
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your hearts and peace to thee God wanted me now; He set me free.
Farewell, my friends. I go to glory." "My work   is done, why wait?" "It's   very beautiful over there."
