Rev. James Cornelious Carter, Jr. was a 1965 graduate of Rehobeth High School. He served as Assistant Pastor of Mt. Zion AME Church, Opelika, AL before serving as Pastor of Allen Memorial AME Church, LaFayette, AL and St. James AME Church, Tuskegee, AL respectively.

His survivors include: his devoted wife, Malinda Reed Carter, LaGrange, GA; one daughter, Ajene' Carter, Detroit, MI; two sons, DuWayne Carter and Byron Carter both of LaGrange, GA; two grandchildren, Alexsis K. Carter and DuWayne E. Carter, Jr. both of LaGrange, GA; his loving mother by whom he was reared, Fannie D. Carter, Valley, AL; six siblings, Shirley Hervey, Valley, AL, Shurby Jean Copeland, Atlanta, GA, Michael (Yolanda) Carter and Teddy Carter both of Valley, AL, Anthony (Carolyn) Carter, Opelika, AL and Kenneth Carter, Hope Mills, NC; his mother-in-law, Carrie Mae Reed, West Point, GA; sister-in-law, Erma Joe (Cornelious) Marbley, Las Vegas, NV; brothers-in-law, Ervwin Reed and Joe Brooks, Jr. both of LaGrange, GA and Ben Reed, West Point, GA; aunts and uncles; one great-aunt; and, a host of other loving relatives and friends.
