As a Marine, Dick played basketball on a Parris Island team with some college star officers who went on to play in the the NBA. The commandant wanted Dick to accept a commission, but he was already planning his post Marine Corps life as a doctor. We knew how special he was, even back then. #

I will always remember Dr, Witzig, he shared a birthday with my sister Margaret. But what I most remember is how his staff always had a little party for him on his birthday. Plus the big party at the Peanut Farm in Woodside and that was a lot of fun with the shaky floors. Great fun with his attitude about life..

Dr. Witzig was thee best doctor a kid could have!. Our family took turns in seeing the doctor, but I won out for being so accident prone. I actually enjoyed visiting the doctor, with his cigars and humorous jokes, always put you at ease, even when I hemorrhaged in the recovery room after a tonsillectomy@ 25 yrs.old.he blew in like superman,& did the surgery again without missing a beat.

Dr. W (as we called him) was a wonderful human being. My mother-in-law Carol worked for him for years. He and Mary attended my wedding, attended family parties, allowed us to use their cabin at Incline Village, and he delivered my 2 children. We lived in his apartment above his office for years and he was a fantastic landlord as well. My thoughts & prayers are with you all. Love & Hugs!

My life changed the day I interviewed for a medical asst. position with Dr. Witzig. He hired me on intuition. His faith in my nursing abilities sustained me for all of my medical career. He was my boss, but so much more; my teacher, my mentor, my friend! And the bonus; his family and all the wonderful people he introduced me to. He touched so many lives with his care and humor.A true gift!

Our thoughts, prayers and love are with you.

I first met Dr. Witzig 48 years ago and he delivered all five of my children. As a frightened young girl with no family or an education, this man and true Doctor always encouraged me that I was intelligent and that I could do whatever I set out to do and with his words he gave faith. No matter what problem it was, he was there for us. What a great Doctor and friend along with his wife Mary

Our family was a patient of Dr. Witzig for 22 years. Really missed him when we had to switch doctors because of insurance. Will always remember him and also you Mary in the office. May all your memories help you with your loss. Judy Castillo, San Mateo, CA

Beloved Doctor

July 14, 2019

Dr. Witzig was my family doctor from age 19 until I moved away 8 yrs. later.  He delivered 3 of my kids.  As a young mother (18-23) I took my kids to the ER every time they had a fever. (I had a nephew who died of crib death when I was pregnant with my first child and I was so afraid it would happen to one of mine).  Every single time, no matter what he had been doing, he came to the hospital.  He didn't need to or have to. He had a great sense of humor and he sincerely cared about his patients.  There will never be another like him.  I loved him like family.  I have thought about him over the years.  I'm sure he'll be missed by many who, like me, were blessed to know him.

My Best Dr .

The Golden Age of Riviera Mar

May 22, 2013

For the Readhimer family, Dr. Witzig will always be fondly remembered for his wit and consideration for others during our time we spent enjoying his company in Manzanillo, Colima, Mexico.   He was gentle and kind and his humor was contagious.   Back in 1983 as a new parent of our first born (Natalie) it was Dr. Witzig that comforted me and told me how to control her fever.  It was he who helped my father James (now 80) with his neck and back pain after a nasty fall down the concrete steps at Riveria Mar.

Then of course there were the Condo owners annual meetings with Dr. Witzig and his cheeful presence enjoying life but alway having time to listen to anyone that would stop by his ocean view slice of paradise.

Our sincere sympathy to Mary and Dr. Witzig's family as well as our thanks for having the blessed opportunity to know him as a friend.
