His Life
February 20, 2014

He was born Saturday, February 17, 1962, and was raised on Fredonia Road in Lanett, by most of the Fulghum Clan, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. His family influenced who he became. Rick had a lot of good and life-long friends. He loved every opportunity to be with these friends, especially the buddies who played poker once or twice a year. Rick was a wonderful husband and father. When he was home from a long haul (he was a truck driver) all he wanted was to spend very moment with Jessica and me. He helped around the house with everything large or small. He also loved his Grandson, Nathan very much. Rick has three nieces he adored, Caitlyn Cook, Cierra Kirk, and Jordyn White. These girls considered him to be their father as well as an uncle. He was there for them whenever they needed him.

Rick loved his Church family and his God. He was studying to be a deacon in the Diocese of Birmingham in Alabama. He learned much about our faith and himself. He made friends with a very special group of men and their wives. He had high hopes of service to our church family. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and helped with their service to our community. Rick had kidney cancer. We believe his smoking played a major role in him contracting this disease. When you are young you think you are bullet proof and “have to die from something”. I can assure you that this is not the way you want to go. Cancer robbed us of many things: it took a husband, a father, and son, a brother, an uncle, a friend, and a good man.

Rick is survived by his wife, Cheryl Mackool Fulghum; Daughter Jessica (Patrick) Steele; Grandson Nathan; Mother, Jane McKenzie Fulghum; Sisters Chris Kirk and Bethany (Joel) Smith; Nieces Caitlyn Cook, Cierra Kirk, and Jordyn White; Father Phillip Fulghum, In-laws John and Joanne Mackool, Yvonne Monte, and Cherie Cook.
