His Life

In Loving Memory

January 31, 2015

Richard Lane Muir, son of the late Evelyn (James) and Henry Muir, stepson of Margaret (Wager) Muir passed away peacefully on January 26, 2015 in Fairfax, Virginia. Born on May 16, 1941 in Springfield Massachusetts, Richard spent his early years in Springfield and Wilbraham. He attended Dorman Elementary School, Buckingham Junior High School and Technical High School, all in Springfield. He continued his education at the University of Tampa in Florida and Springfield College.

Richard found his passion for movies, their production and history, in his early twenties. He was one of the first managers for Sumner Redstone’s cineplexes in West Springfield, MA  Thirty-eight years ago, Richard moved to Springfield, VA (there is something about that name he loved!) and continued his career with a variety of management positions in the movie theater industry. Throughout his life, he developed dear and lasting friendships.

Richard leaves his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Rosemary Muir of Baltimore, MD, a nephew, Christopher Lane Muir of Gaithersburg, MD, a niece and nephew-in-law, Ashley and Nestor Gavidia and a grand-nephew, Christian Gavidia all of Laurel, MD.

Richard chose not only the way he lived his life, but the way in which it would pass, making the decisions he felt were best for him. He died peacefully, knowing he was loved.

Richard always had a great love for animals.  Donations in his memory can be made to the SPCA of Northern Virginia.  This is the link to their website..   https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/spcanova
