Bob graduated from West Point High School in 1946 and went to Georgia Tech on a football scholarship. He left Georgia Tech after a year and enlisted in the US Army. He was stationed in Japan after World War II where he developed a lifelong love for downhill snow skiing. After two years in the Army, Bob left the service and enrolled at Auburn University. Following graduation Bob moved to New York City where he began working for West Point Pepperell as a sales representative. After living in New York City for two years Bob moved Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and moved back to West Point in 1979. In 1986, Bob and Cassandra Hoats of West Point were married. They lived in Missouri, North Carolina, and Atlanta for 15 years and eventually moved back to West Point, the town they both grew up in and loved. Bob loved life, loved God, and loved people. He was a long term member of the First United Methodist Church in West Point. He was a kind, gentle, generous man, a treasure to everyone who knew him. He had a warm and winning personality and had kind and encouraging words for all. He thrived on helping others and spent countless hours volunteering for a variety of organizations across the community.

Bob is survived by his devoted wife Cassandra, his three children, Robert Hicks, Jr. of Acworth, GA (wife Deborah, children David Hicks, Jill Hicks Fairman, and Liz Hicks); Carol Hicks Woodcock of Bangor, ME (husband Timothy Woodcock, children Katie, Timothy, and Eliza); Edward Hicks of Cumming, GA (wife Melody, children Edward, Patrick and Chandler) His sister Louise Hess of Virginia. Bob will also be genuinely missed by Cassandra’s brother Kenneth Hoats and his wife Heather and their three children, Corbin, Lillie and Curry, along with Bubba Hoats and his wife Beth and their two children Stephanie and Brandon, plus Hunter Hoats and his wife Dee, and friend and father-in-law Jack Hoats. Bob was predeceased by his older brother, Henry Houston Hicks, and his younger brother, Frank Hicks.
