LIFE IS BUT A STOPPING PLACE

March 11, 2012

Life is but a stopping place,
A pause in what’s to be,
A resting place along the road,
To sweet eternity
We all have different journeys,
Different paths along the way,
We all were meant to learn some things,
But never mean to stay…
Our destination is a place,
Far greater than we know.
For some the journey’s quicker,
For some the journey’s slow.
And when the journey finally ends,
We’ll make a great step forward,
And find an everlasting peace,
As our special reward.

Robert was born in Helenburgh, Scotland on the 12th day of July 1951 to Kathleen and Gordon Grant.

He went to Royal School, Holbrook Ipswich and Heriot–Watt University, Edinburgh where he obtained a degree in accounting with distinction. Prior to joining CFAO, he worked with Touche Ross, Russell & Russell both in Glasgow as a Senior Accountant and later moved to Ernst & Whinney in Monrovia, Liberia as an Audit Manager. It was in Monrovia, Liberia that he joined the CFAO Group in 1980 and later moved to Cameroon as Financial Controller and then to CFAO Nigeria as the Deputy Managing Director in charge of finance in the year 1994. A well   trained and focused chartered accountant, highly intelligent and thorough, while in Nigeria, Robert made sure that the finance and accounting records of the company was in good shape. In 2002, he was transferred to CFAO Ghana as the Managing Director after which he was moved to CFAO Nigeria this time around as the Group Managing Director (Representative of CFAO France in Nigeria) in 2005. The position he occupied until his retirement in August 2011. Thereafter, he moved to Ghana as the Group Financial Director, Hull Blythe until his untimely death on the 10th of December 2011.

Robert was living proof of how fine a person can be. He   was a consummate gentleman with a great sense of humour, a man of elegance and style, a good boss to the people in his charge, a loving husband to his wife and a devoted father to his children. He was also a good friend to many and a great colleague. The character of the life he lived might be summed up in a few words: he was sincere, he was earnest and he was loyal. He will be greatly missed by all.

Robert was happily married to Halima and survived by three children – Adam, Naomi and Michael, his mother, Kathleen and three brothers.

May  his gentle soul rest in eternal bliss.
