This memorial website was created in memory of our loved one, Robert "Bud" Hay. Bud ranched outside of Winnemucca for almost 70 years!  We will remember him forever.

Well "Bud" Janet and I had Tama here for about a week visiting your sister Mary Lee. I have been fortunate to share a lot of my life with your daughter Janet. What a strong influence you were on both of the girls. I see many of your attributes and characteristics in both and especially when they are together. Little "pieces" of Bud pop out from time to time and it makes me laugh and wish you were here to see. They both have been very successful and have work ethics which I'm sure came from nobody else but Bud. I'm sure you are proud as you watch over these two. Still remembered and always missed.

The years click by but the memories do not fade. I was told that the soul lives forever as long as the person is remembered. We will always remember Buddy. There are few days that go by that a certain look. or mannerism of Bud's is not brought to mind. I see people in my travels that will do something or look like Bud and it brings back memories of interactions with him. I smile and cherish the moment. We miss you Bud, still and always.

I handed down your Stetson hat to my son Sean who called you Grandpa and still does to this day. At your memorial he spoke about living there with you on the ranch when he was fighting fires for the BLM in Winnemucca. He shares fond memories of that time and how much he learned during that period of time. I will post the photo I have of him wearing your hat with his Mustang "Misty", Bud...enjoy. We miss you and think of you often.

Well Buddy's ranch is being farmed again. The wells are working and the sprinklers are running. A little piece of Nevada that was his, is green again. Growing things and raising cattle were his life. He is looking down and is proud. We miss you Buddy.

It's been another year (3) since Bud has been gone. We have made many improvements to the ranch this year. Remodeling the house and during this still finding interesting things Buddy had collected over the years. Some are just vintage tools and equipment that are still used today. Some are "scratch your head and wonder" what they are or what they could have been used for. His ingenuity on "fixes" that we find or "repairs" he had made are a marvel. I truly believe he was a mechanical engineer without the degree. We still miss you Buddy and always will.

It's been two years. Bud is now and forever will be missed until we meet again. He is probably saving every welding job he has for me when I get there. I hope he is enjoying some of the sculpture pieces I have been creating from found objects from the ranch. Seems every time we go to the Winnemucca we run into someone that knew buddy. There are always stories about Bud and I still enjoy hearing them!

It's been one year since "Bud" left us. When we visit the ranch now and he is not there, it just doesn't seem the same. When I am by myself there I can still hear his voice, still see him "tinkering" with equipment, still see him on a horse or a tractor. I wonder if God has tractors? If He does Buddy's got something to "tinker" with.

The Ghost Rider

Altho I don't remember that I was ever subject to a specific curfew hour when I was in High School, there must have some kind of upspoken expectation. I was mobile and had access to a car from about sophmore year forward. Nevada runs on a 24/7 schedule and since most dances or similar school activities closed about midnight there were always 1 or 2 choices of places in Lovelock to eat, and a bar that had a dance floor with live music or records and would let us dance. So post event eat & dance & social activities followed by whatever were appropos detours on the way home were common. Since I had a car I was often the driver with passengers to drop on my way home. Sometimes it was 2-3-4ish A M hours when this car would pull up alongside mine (usually parked somewhere on a back road around Lovelock). It would be "Brother Bud" who rolled down his window and in a very quiet low-key manner would suggest I head for home soon, because Mater had sent you to check on me. THANKS!
