About Robert

March 4, 2015

Robert was a sweet and loving soul; he was intelligent, loving, fun and a hard worker.  He was born on June 17, 1947- the first child of five born to Jean and Mary (Martin) Fournier.  Robert attended grade school at Mother of Divine Grace Catholic Church in Cheektowaga NY and high school at Bishop Neuman High School in Buffalo, NY.

His siblings are brother David Fournier of Spokane WA and sisters Judy Willits of Coolin, ID, Diane Cook of Fayetteville, AR and Karen Fournier of Spokane, WA.  The family lived in Cheektowaga, NY, a suburb of Buffalo, NY and later in Clearwater, Florida, on the Gulf of Mexico.  Robert loved the beach and the ocean and chose to have his ashes scattered in the Pacific Ocean by the Neptune Society.

Robert was a dedicated partner, son, brother, uncle, friend and employee.  He loved family - his family of origin and the wonderful family of Joy Graham, his loving partner.  Robert enjoyed family gatherings - joking and laughing with family members.  Children were especially drawn to him because he had an innocence about him and he could be silly.

Robert overcame many personal obstacles in his life through perseverance and faith.  He was a great example of personal success through hard work and a love of life.

God sent Robert a special angel, Joy Graham, to love and support him through many difficult times in his life, including his recent illness.  They were a loving and dedicated couple;  together Robert and Joy shared many lovely days and much laughter.   They were best friends and helpmates.  They shared a love of God, country and family that was evident in their lives and in the lives of the family that surrounded and loved them.  Robert will be forever missed by all.

Robert was a Vietnam Veteran who served his country with honor as an intelligence officer.  He later worked for the U.S. Government as a Contracts Specialist and retired in 2013 with a successful career of 29 years of civil service.  He enjoyed golfing,  computing,  gardening and dabbling in the stock market.  He had an inquisitive mind that was forever pondering ideas and searching for answers to questions many of us never think to ask.

Robert was an optimist;  he rebounded from many personal problems with an unbelievable strength, earning him the family nickname "The Comeback Kid."  His letters and emails to family were always upbeat and hopeful.  He talked of the positives in his life more than his troubles.  He believed in miracles, love at first sight and dreams coming true.  Robert's legacy is in his ability to love, to forgive, to persevere, work hard and play.  He will be missed by everyone whose lives touched his and he is now safe and at peace in our Lord's loving embrace.  We love you Robert.
