Robert John Fisher, Jr., age 84, of Vista, California passed away January 17, 2021 from complications related to COVID-19.

Bob was born on May 28, 1936 in Escanaba, Michigan. He grew up in Grangeville, Idaho. On February 11, 1961, Bob married the love of his life, Barbara Ruth Moncrieff. He retired from the United States Marine Corps as a Captain in 1972, he sold real estate in Vista and in retirement was the owner of The Old Toy Soldier Home. Bob lived in Vista for 52 years, where he was an active member of St. Francis of Assisi Church and the Vista Lions Club. Bob was an avid golfer, traveler, and toy soldier enthusiast. He loved watching old westerns with John Wayne, listening to Frank Sinatra, eating fresh lobster and drinking Guinness.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Barbara, his children, Kelly (Dani), Molly (Don), and Suzi, as well as his five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Alzheimer’s San Diego (https://www.alzsd.org) or the Wounded Warrior Project (https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/). Since we are unable to have a funeral service due to COVID-19, please leave your favorite memory or photo of Bob, or the next time you have a beer, choose a Guinness, and raise a glass to a great man that will be dearly missed. A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.

I have just arrived home from a one year stay in Utah to find a mailed card reminder for the February 27, 2022 West Coaster. That prompted me to google Bob's name. I was so very saddened to see the news. I thought it was important to leave my condolences and tell you that Bob was one of the nicest guys I've known. And definitely one of the most honest. When I used to visit the store Bob was very straight forward with me about what was a good buy and any little negative/positive details I might not have noticed about the product. Bob was always pleasant and just had a way about him that made you feel comfortable. All of us can only hope that when the time comes people remember us in the way they remember Bob. That would be an honor. We should all drink a bottle of Guinness on his behalf to celebrate a really, really fine man. I will miss him. - John Weil

Bob Fisher was an amazing man. He was the son of Bob and Mary Fisher. He spent most of his growing up years in Grangeville, Idaho, which was a little town in Idaho that he loved and was proud to share with his family. He loved the annual Borders Day celebration with the egg toss, parades and meeting with his high school classmates and teachers at reunions. Hard to believe it was just five years ago he celebrated the Fourth of July in Grangeville.
Bob was a big brother to his sister Patt who passed away in 2018. Michael who lives in Iowa and sisters Linda and Maribeth in Idaho. He was Uncle Bob to his nieces and nephews. We all have so many good memories of Bob.
He was a man who loved family and had a great commitment to take care of us. He was a man of great faith. He and Barbara shared a beautiful life together with many challenges and celebrations. They were so very proud of their three girls, grandkids and great grandkids. They never lacked photos to share and brag.
Our hearts are broken and grieve for Barb, Kelli, Molly and Suzi, grandkids/grandkids. I hope that soon we will all be able to celebrate and remember the man who always was there to take care of us. He is greatly missed. Rest In Peace Bob, we love you and miss you.

Greetings, the biggest regret I have is not having enough inter actions with cousin Bob and Barbara. I can always remember in early years what a big man we thought he was with his military service and rank. Thank you for your service. Our last meeting is Menominee; Mich at Perkins was a great time. You were noticed and you will be missed Cousin Sarge & Joni Rudell

Dear Fisher Family,
Although the years have flown, memories of Bob and all of you remain bright and warm in my memory and in my heart. I always knew I'd get a warm hug and encouragement when I would see Bob, even though I was quite the handful. He had the best and brightest smile (although I'd say that's a tie with his lovely Bride, Barbara), and of course spending time in the Tin Soldier Shop was so fascinating, and Bob was always happy to explain what the soldiers and their regalia was for. He was a patient and kind man. Summertime swims, and having Molly as my favorite sitter, she had to have gotten her patience from somewhere :) I can recall so many early morning Lions club meetings, pancake breakfasts at Brengle Terrace with the Lion's Club, and it was so nice to see him & Barb still trucking along years after we lost my Dad, Fred. He and Barb made it sting a little less to be without my Dad. Bob and Barb raised a beautiful family, were active together in our little town of Vista and the community was abundantly blessed by it. I wrap you all in so much love and comfort and peace, and thank you for sharing this beautiful tribute to a marvelous Grandfather, Father, & Friend to many, May he fly free, and rest in love.
Our hearts celebrate and mourn with yours, we are so sorry for your loss.
Love, Nicole (Gross) Rouette & family <3

Kelly, Molly, Suzi and Families,
It's been many years but losing a class act like cousin Bob still hurts.
Visiting your Dad and Mom in Vista and attending Fisher and Girard family reunions always guaranteed beautiful memories. My mom, Aunt Alice loved spending time with her sister Mary's family.
Please accept our condolences and know you are in our thoughts and prayers.
Cousin Penny (Rudell) and Dick Hurlbert

Anyone who knows my story, knows that my family moved around A LOT growing up. But one of the things that remained constant throughout my childhood, was my grandparent’s home. In a lot of ways, I considered it my childhood home.
Each summer, we tracked my height on their kitchen wall. We spent days and nights swimming in their pool and eating BBQ out on their deck. He would pay me a quarter for swimming underwater across the whole pool. And in the winter, he’d pay me a dollar! I remember picking oranges in their backyard and making fresh squeezed orange juice for our pancake breakfasts. We would make chocolate chip cookies with my grandma and keep them in a ceramic toy soldier cookie jar that made music when you opened the lid. My grandma would keep all the extra crispy (burnt) cookies just for him because they were his favorite. We’d sit in their living room, and twirl around in their spinny chairs while listening to Frank Sinatra on his record player. Years later, he and I danced to Frank at my wedding and it's a memory that I will cherish forever.
I remember going to work with him. We got to drive in his ’86 Mercedes convertible with the “furry” seats. He owned a toy soldier store and on special days, he’d let us come with him and help around the shop. He’d let us clean the glass cases (using windex is super fun when you’re a kid), and prepare the orders that needed to be shipped out (popping bubblewrap and weighing stuff is also super fun). He had a bell at the front door to notify him when customers would come in. We used to walk in and out just to hear the bell over and over and over again. Then at lunchtime, we’d walk down the sidewalk to his favorite sandwich shop and we’d order a pastrami sandwich. To this day, anytime I eat pastrami, I think of those memories.
My grandpa was one of the most loyal, friendly, and generous people I’ve ever met. He made me feel so special and so loved. RIP Grandpa, Love your favorite "American Granddaughter" :(
