Mr. Robert Mays (SFC, Retired) of Columbus passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Gentiva Hospice at the age of 82.

The son of the late James and Audrey Mays Wilson, Mr. Mays was born in Cairo, GA on August 27, 1931. He was a member of the St. James CME Church where he served as a Trustee, and was a Veteran of the U. S. Army where he served his country for 20 years. He was also retired from Southern Bell with 20 years of service.

Surviving his departure with cherished memories, include: his wife of 52 years, Mrs. Ernestine Chester Mays; a daughter, Marlene Mays Jackson (Clovis); one grandson, Ahmad Jackson; beloved god-children, Thomas Brown, Jr. (Jessica) and Nicole Brown Jefferson (Albert); beloved in-laws, Carolyn Thornton (Eddie), Sandra Kendrick (William), Margaret Fuller, Vanessa Harris (James), Alfred Chester (Barbara), Winfred Chester (Lisa), Carrie Chester, Sukie Chester, to include a very loving, devoted and caring sister-in-law, Janice Arrington (Ulysses); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
