His Life

Robert L. Newton, Sr., the son of the late Alford and Genevive Harris Newton, was born February 12, 1942 in Troup County, GA.  He departed this life on March 20, 2013 at Lanier Health Service.

 

Bro” as he was known to most, accepted Christ at an early age and united with the Bethlehem Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. H.J. Lily.

 

He was a product of the West Point City Schools.

 

Early in life “Bro” met and joined into holy matrimony to Evelyn Williams and to this union three children were born.

 

He was very helpful in the community.  He was a hard worker and was always there if you needed him.  He never met a stranger.  His was known for his favorite saying, “E.T. Baby.”

 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Newton and a sister, Lula B. McLemore.

 

He leaves to cherish his memories: two sons, Robert L. Newton, Jr., Earnest Lamar (Yulanda) Newton, West Point, GA; one daughter, Valerie Newton(Walter Dorsey), LaGrange, GA; two sisters, Christene Wilson, Annie V. Slaughter, West Point, GA; three brothers, Homer Lee Newton, Pal Newton, West Point, GA and Carey Arthur Newton, Atlanta, GA; son-in-law, Lamar Jennings, West Point, GA; and array of grandchildren and great grandchildren, a  special niece, Patricia Floyd, West Point, GA, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends; special friends Michael Frazier, Sherrill Barnes and Derrick Gilliam.
