His Life

I Held Her First

April 11, 2011

Bobby was always so proud of Tara.  He was especially happy that he got to hold her for 45 minutes, before even, I, her mother, got a chance to hold her.  He held her like she was the most precious thing he had ever seen and I knew from the way he looked at her that my competition for his love had just been born.  I knew then that I wasn't the only important female in his life!

Another Missed Birthday

April 9, 2011

From Bobby's journal.  Entry dated 02-15-92 "Today is my son Christopher's birthday.  A birthday again that I should be attending.  However I know that my son is taken care of because God watches us all."

"I know it's been awhile since last you heard but I got married! Almost 2 months ago. On my wedding day I found myself almost not wanting to be married.  Sharon's mom (Vivian) came to pick me up.  I was so nervous she made me stop to pick up vodka.  Leave it to a mother to know what to do.  She brought me to the church on time, I guess, and the rest was hell.  On the way there I told her I didn't want to do it.  I kept thinking,..What if I'm not good enough for Sharon?!  What if I make the same mistakes I made twice before?  Anyway, I arrived unscathed and realized that I had to marry the most beautiful woman in the world, or someone else would do so.  I was so scared and I couldn't even say my wedding vows properly and Reverend Steve Hill almost skipped part of what I had to say.  Yet I made it through and am really greatful to God that He was there.  When Sharon & I mentioned her walking up the aise, she almost did not want to do so.  Yet when agreed upon, she said "I'll look on both sides of the ailes like there are people there".  Well when she did, she looked to her right & then started towards her left, and I know I caught her eyes for just a split second.  In that split second I found I was looking at the most beautiful woman in the world.  Yes I was married twice before Sharon but I have never seen a woman look as Sharon did at that one moment in time. Absolutely gorgeous."

Bobby is one of 6 children born to John and Patricia O'Brien.  He is a native New Yorker born in The Bronx.  Bobby is survived by his siblings Dennis, John, Paul, James and sister Jeaninne Tomala.

In addition to his siblings and wife, Sharon, he is survived by 4 children, Nicole, Christopher, Danny and Tara as well as 4 grandchildren, Brenden, Emily, Mia and Kyle.

Although Bobby was only 56 years old when God called him, he managed to live a full and interesting life.  Bobby loved music, was a self taught guitarist and an advid lover of music.  He started dancing at family weddings and parties when he was 4 years old.  In the 80's he began partnering with others dancing and spent alot of time with friends and family in various clubs in New York.  One of his favorite stories was the chance meeting of Gloria Gainer in one such club and disco dancing with her.

After 37 years of being a New Yorker, he moved after a near fatal accident, with his partents to South Florida.  Here, in 1991, he met his current wife.  The chance meeting on September 4, 1991 resulted in a marriage a year later to Sharon.

Bobby will be remembered for the deep love he had for his family, children and wife.  He was an intelligent, talented, loving person.  He saw only the good in others and had a unique quality of instant forgiveness for everyone, no matter what the circumstance.

While Bobby will be missed forever by many, he leaves us with beautiful memories of a life full of passon for music, dance and most importantly, love.

When we leave this earth we will find Bobby amoung God's children sitting and petting the white tigers.
