ROBERT TAYLOR STEELE

Robert Taylor Steele was born February 27, 1914, to Hugh Charles and Tessa Blanche Taylor Steele. He was born in Des Moines, IA, and grew up in Iowa and Illinois. After graduation from high school, he went to work for his father in the family business, Steele Heating, installing furnaces.

Robert married Angela Louise Remund in Oak Park, Illinois, on November 15, 1938. He worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for about 40 years as a Rate Engineer. He retired in 1974. They lived in Mitchell, South Dakota; Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and Omaha, Nebraska.

Robert served in the United States Army Signal Corp on Okinawa from 1943-1946. He

could not talk about his experiences during World War II for ten years; and even after the ten years, it was not a subject he discussed.

Three children were born to them, Dorothy Joanne Steele (Ronald McKeever), Richard Remund Steele (Marie Hoeft), and Barbara Angela Steele (Gary Neid). They had two grandchildren, Matthew Steele McKeever (Lisa Schiltz) and Michelle Rhonda McKeever, and two great-grandchildren, Corran Steele McKeever and Mara Jane McKeever. They also welcomed two grandchildren Angela Hoeft (William Bolen) and Greg (Dina) Hoeft; and six grandsons, Ryan, Evan, and Dawson Bolen and Schyler, Andrew, and Henry Hoeft.

Robert died in Norfolk, Nebraska, on October 1, 1999. He is buried in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Omaha, Nebraska. Angela, his wife of 61 years, died May 20, 2007, and is buried beside him.
