It was an honor to be present with Bob up until his last days - his fighting spirit and wit were with him until the end. He was kind and appreciative to the staff. He loved to read and passed down that gene to his son and grandchildren: they all can dive deep into a book! When I think of his voice now, I hear music...the way he would sing out his words. Breathe freely, dear Bob.

To My Dearest Dad, who was my hero in so many ways. He made sure I was set up for success, and rescued me from myself on more than one occasion. He instilled in me a love of nature and travelling the world that defines me today. He leaves a big hole in my life.
I'll miss you Dad, rest peacefully.

My sweet Dad... he really was a gentle man, despite his bad choices in later years...He used to call me "Sarah Beara", loved to people watch, look at the wild life, and never once brought me into the divorce. I am very appreciative of an excellent eduaction, tutoring for my learning disability and my study abroad. He passed his days here in the best way he knew....

Gifted Photographer

May 17, 2013

We shared the appreciation for photography. Bob had taken amazing slides of his travels in the 50's and 60's with family which I was able to go through and select some digital/prints. Bummer assignment!

Herbie the Love Bug

May 16, 2013

My Dad loved to drive, and when I was in middle school living in San Francisco he bought a volkswagen convertible bug.
He used to pick me and my friends up (Geoff Tuller, Stephen Peterson) and we'd go cruising with the top down at breakneck (but safe) speeds through the Presidio. So much fun - for some reason we called this 'shaving', I think because it was an alternative to 'cutting' through the presidio.
Later, he taught me to drive a clutch in that bug by taking me to the steepest street in SF - i think it was Jones, and making me start from a dead stop using the hand brake.
When I was 19 and in the dumps living on my own in the downtown, Dad picked me up in the bug and we went to the Sierras on a 10 day trip. I had a favorite hike near Johnsville that started about 15 miles down a dirt road- a jeep trail really. Dad drove that bug down that road at 2mph to get there. When we were done, the springs were completely shot.

Moving Song at Pete and Bonnie's Wedding

May 15, 2013

I met Mr. Fritz once.  He sang the most moving song to Pete that I will never forget.  I'm sure the title of the song must have been "Love Her."
