His Life

Daddy

March 14, 2013

Daddy, was a very special man, not only to us, his 4 children. Dan, Dennis ,Cindy & Rhonda. He joined the U.S. Navy when he was 18,  in 1949 and served 22 years in the service and retired  in 1971. We did miss alot of him when we were growing p, but our Mom followed him and made their family of Navy brats starting w/ Daniel Welker in 1960 in San Diego, California, then came our Guamanian brother Dennis Robert, born in Agana, Guam in 1961, and then the 1st daughter was myself, Cynthia( Cindy) in Newport News, Virginia in 1965 and lastly there was the last baby girl born in Newport News, Virhinia in 1970.
My Dad was raised born to Rollie & Lulu Welker, also from Illinois. My Grandpa Rollie was a teacher for years then he was a Professor, then a Superintendant of Schools. We grew up in a loving home, with 2 of the best parents a family could ask for. Our Dad passed away in Branson, Missouri in 1992, on vacation w/ my Mom and our yongest sister Rhonda Welker Burrell & Brittan Burrell (their Granddaughter)  He had a massive heart attack going into to see the Ray Stevens Show. He loved the mountains in Branson and the shows, I went w/them the year before and it was so foggy you couldn't see in the mountains.Quite scary that year.
But on December the 5th of 1992. I talked to Daddy and I asked how the trip was, he said it was great. I asked how was the fog, he said there wasn't any on that particular trip and I said how did the mountains look. He said, Cindy it is beautiful, you can see for miles it's so beautiful. The prettiest he had seen it out of their 3 trips theyhad made there. And he told me Goodbye and I said I loved him and he said he loved me, little did I know this would be the last time I would ever speak to the 1st man I had ever loved in my life. My Dad was flown home to Texas after he passed away, if I had only known that day was the last time I would have ever talked to him , 4 days after my birthday, I would still be talking to him. I love and miss him, he taught us all self respect and to shoot for the stars. He was my super star when I was a little girl and he still is now I am a grown woman w/ 2 kids (sons) of my own. Imiss him now as much as I did back then. But he passed away in the place he loved to vacation . I just wish he was still here so he could see all his wonderful Grandchildren and his awesome Great Grandchildren, him and our Mom both.
Daddy, we love you and need you , but we know one day, we will all be back together again, and as usual you went ahead to prepare us a place. Always taking care of your babies. You and Mom both.
