Her Life

Forever Remembered

June 20, 2011

Roberta had a loving spirit and a nurturing caring attitude where she became the confidant and mother to many over the years. Her warm smiling personality was contagious and recognized no matter where she went she always left an everlasting impression.

As time drew near she became tired and through God’s spirit he gave her the following: “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls”. St. Matthew 11:29.

A lifetime of loving devotion and sacrifice was her life’s journey and the spirit of Jesus Christ was the crown she proudly wore. After two and a half years of being physically separated from her husband of a lifetime, she is now re-united with him and they finally rest together. She was called home of natural causes on June 15, 2011. She never complained and fought the good fight to the end.

Roberta’s joy was her family and the love for her husband! They both had unconditional love and a true commitment to helping others. Their love has been seen and will be remembered by all who crossed their paths.

The Middle Years

June 20, 2011

After her husband retired in 1972, their family relocated to Delhi, California, where they joined Delhi Missionary Baptist Church, of Delhi, California and continued the tradition of personal ministry and mentorship to all they came in contact with.

Upon failing health of Roberta’s husband they relocated to Elk Grove, California to be in the care of their youngest Daughter (Gloria) and family. As being obedient to the covenant of the Baptist Church and the principles of God's word, they joined Paradise Missionary Baptist Church, of Sacramento, California.
After her husband’s home going in 2009, Roberta’s mourning period consisted of a renewed vigor for life and rapidly flourished in the loving environment of her eldest daughter (Chris) and son-in-law.  She united with Taylor Memorial United Methodist Church, of Oakland, California and at the age of 85, Roberta would still assist with delivery of communion to the sick and shut-in.
She was also a recognized spiritual and encouragement champion at the Oakland Senior Center and became the poster child for the Alzheimer’s Association. Her vibrant smile was featured on the front page of many local newspapers, where she told her personal story of how she has been blessed with learning how to deal with Alzheimer.

A Growing Family

Roberta Randolph was the mother of seven children and would also bring up several of her younger siblings, and from time to time would have grandchildren and others under her wing.
Along with taking care of a growing young family, Roberta worked at Laguna Honda hospital assisting the elderly, and later took care of a prominent San Francisco family. She also supported the family picture frame business while residing in Daly City, California.

The Beginning

June 20, 2011

ROBERTA (Bert) RANDOLPH was born in Reform, Alabama on December 15, 1924, to Willie Blanch Guyton and David Williams.

As a child growing up in a remote rural country region, it was customary for a local minister to travel to different churches, so Roberta would attend church once a month and accepted the Lord at an early age.
As a young child, Roberta’s family moved to Ethelsville, Alabama where she first met her husband of 65 years. After courting for many years, Roberta married her childhood sweetheart, Elijah Randolph, on the state line of Alabama & Mississippi on October 19, 1944.

In 1946, Roberta moved with her husband to San Francisco, California and lived with her sister-in-law and her husband, Virginia & Burnice Blackburn.
