It's hard to believe that it has been a year since You have been gone.
You were the best grandpa I could have, You taught me how to fish and hunt, and yes thank you for helping me out with my King Salmon in Alaska. It was You who was with me the whole way. You were one of the most knowledgable people I ever knew. I will promise to keep on doing what You passed down to me. I miss You a lot.

Hell.....Fire .....Pecker..... Damn.....Ron Mack---upon observance of my birth certificate---MY GOD PARENTS---were Ron and Kathy Mack. MY parents were the most intelligent people ever knew (things I know... this is true!)---pretty sure this is written--cause it is taught (in my family!)! . Seriously. Ron-- Ron Mack--taught me about life--not a little--but a lot.......Dear Dad---Ron and Kathy are tens of thousands of mile from me--they don't give a shit about the persons I'll become. What religion I follow.... Really? Why did you choose them? Well Dad? (And I say Dad (who is as far from a religion as any one could ever be...)---because my Mom (CATHOLIC AS ANYONE COULD EVER BE!!...and Rons Cousin)--(well there were no questions for my MOM!!) We're all Catholics and it didn't matter---long as we believe in Christ??(YUP)? Oh and Dad You don't go to church?!? And well,  DAD...........Why should I be a Catholic? Dear God---, Ron Mack---I'm your God daughter---You are the faith that leads this family---you lead us in the paths that we follow. Because seriously there is a thing called faith. Faith has everything to do with who we are! And I am proud that Kathy and Ron Are my Godparents.

When remembering my uncle Ron I think of nature. That is, good natural things to do such as fishing, hunting, making some of the best darn sausage, jerky, fish, beef steak that I've ever tasted. I remember grandpa Jerome telling me early one morning when we stayed there to go uptairs and pull uncle Ronnies ear and wake him up. Ron would play along and pretend to keep sleeping and then all at once he grabbed me and gave a horse bite in my inner thigh. We both laughed and  then went downstairs  for some of grandma Berdina's super breakfast.
I remember Ron kidding around with me holding a straight face right up to the end. You didn't know if he was serious or not. Then came that awsome smile not only with his lips and face, but with his eyes as well.
It is an honor to know my uncle Ron. He was and is a good man in our hearts today.  Even though he is not physically here I'll always see that "smile in his eyes" !

Jerry Heithoff

What ducks? I don't see any ducks."

January 31, 2014

First time (Ron, Dad, Jerome, Joe Henn, Dave, Dennis) let me go duck hunting.  I think we were on the hall ranch somewhere on the creek and ducks were coming in and everyone was telling me to git down and be quiet.  Well I couldn't see no ducks and let them know I couldn't see any ducks.  Anyway I spooked the ducks.  Ron always laughed when we got to talking about different hunts and sooner or later Ron would get that twinkle in his eye and go "What ducks? I don't see any ducks."

Hunting Legacy

Submitted to NebraskaLand Magazine's Portrait of the Past Section (One of Dad's favorites):

Pictured is my Dad, Ron Mack, with some Mallards that we shot in the late 70’s west of Petersburg.  This was a common scene for my brother and I, as we spent nearly every fall weekend with Dad hunting in and around the Sand Hills.  Dad loved hunting around Petersburg his entire life and passed that passion on to his children and grandchildren.   He recently passed away at nearly 80 years old and I can safely say that I never met anyone who could out shoot him and his Browning A5.
