His Life
August 11, 2015

Roosevelt (Archie) Shears was born January 4, 1942 to the late Hattie Shears in Troup County, GA. He was reared by the late Bessie Scroggins. Roosevelt was peacefully summoned home to be with the lord, Friday, August 7, 2015 at the Hospice Center, LaGrange Georgia.

Roosevelt was united in matrimony to his childhood sweetheart, to the late Faye Linda Shears

Roosevelt joined his wife and united with the Bethlehem Baptist Church. Roosevelt enjoyed life, his family, extended family and friends. He took pride in telling jokes, laughing really hard at his own jokes, and laughing really hard at anyone else who told jokes, only if it was to make them feel good. He loved music to no extent, when trying to talk with him, you would have to talk louder because the music being too loud was never an option; it was always you are talking too low. He spent his days laughing at reruns and reminiscing the lines of Fred Sanford on Sanford and Sons.

Roosevelt was one of the first black men in West Point to work in a grocery store. He was employed at the Big Bear Stores, Food Giant/Winn Dixie Companies for years. Later in life he found employment at the West Point Housing Authority until he retired. He was a member of the Friday Night Social Club.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Talya Shears; a grandson, Arandall Shears; two brothers, JD Shears and Jerry Williams.
He leaves to cherish his memories, one daughter, Angela (John) Reed, Marietta, GA; two sons, Randall (Lisa) Shears, West Point, GA; Dontae (Angela) Shears, Valley, AL; one sister, Louise Fitzpatrick, Columbus, GA; two granddaughters; Akayesha (Darquez) Trammell (reared as his daughter), Lanett, AL; Nia Reed, Marietta, GA; two grandsons; Adonta Shears, Valley, AL; John Reed III, San Diego, CA; three great granddaughters; Azorria Barnett, Makayla Shears, Makinsley Trammell, Lanett, AL; special nephew; Joseph (Ned) Hicks, West Point, GA, host of nieces, nephew, cousins, and other relatives and friends; special friends, Robert Bonner, Wayne Jones, West Point, GA
