THE BEST TIMES I EVER HAD WERE WITH MY DAD

November 14, 2012

He enjoyed fishing ,hunting ,in the early days of the 1950s and 1960s at Mckelvies farm (Pukemarama)at tangimoana he shoot many deer from horse back once the dogs got on to them ,the farm was a great place for the deer ,once in the late 1960s  he shot 2 from the land rover ,we spent many hours at Tangimoana beach ,white baitng ,surf casting and net setting ,i remember the time we filled the net with fish ,we had to leave some behind because the well sided land rover was full ,absolutly amazing to catch that many fish ,at first we thought the net was snagged we had to use the land rover to pull it in as it was to heavey to pull in by hand ,good to say i had the day of school as it was to late to catch the bus after we had removed all the fish from the net of course i wasnt worried about school,,these were good times,we also caught many cod of  the beach .thanks Dad for all the great times hunting fishing etc.he also taught me to drive in the land rover which was good plenty of open spaces to learn to drive ,i rember one time i was driveing home and i was going a bit to fast to turn into the drive way and i hit the concrete gate post and snapped it of at the ground ,so we straightened the bull bar on the land rover and re concreted the post back up right ,he put my name and date in the concrete it was in the 1970s cant remember dates ,he never told me of just laughed ,and said these things happen ,it was a learning curve i never did it again .thanks Dad .By Michael he was a great dad 1 in a million.he is missed and loved every day ,i guess you never get over the loss of a great dad.,thank you so much for being my dad and loving me...it ment so much to me and i ko to mum also.....
