Although it's been several months since Mrs. Merritt passed away, I have just learned of it today. She was my 4th grade teacher at Benning Hills Elementary. She left such a mark on my memory and helped shape who I am today that I was looking to see if I could find her on Facebook. Unfortunately, my search led me here. I am such a better person having been a student of hers. I can still see and hear her reading us Tales of a 4th Grade Nothing by Judy Blume!! I can only smile when I think of her. She was a very special lady and an amazing educator. Rest in Paradise Mrs. Merritt.

Fond memories

February 9, 2015

I wasn't able to attend the homegoing services for Aunt Ruby; however, my thoughts were with the family.
Here are a few fond memories of Aunt Ruby and Uncle Tootta (Ernest). When Daddy, James Gaither, used to ride his motorcycle, he would visit his brother in Columbus. The ride was long. When he finally arrived to Aunt Ruby and Uncle Tootta's house, they were always so happy to see us. Aunt Ruby could sense I was tired and hungry from the ride on Dad's motorcycle. Aunt Ruby would prepare a sandwich and place to nap.
Another fond memory was when the entire family came down for the day in the summer. I don't remember much because I was young. I remember the family walking to an open field to play softball. I remember walking with mom, Ruby, and Aunt Ruby to the field and they were going to play soft ball too. As a child, I was trying to wrap my mind around my mom and aunt playing soft ball.
Much love to my Merritt family!!
Sincerely,
Percitia Grant (Merritt)
