Rubylee Evans Farmer, of Oxford, died peacefully in her sleep in the early morning of July 17, 2015. Cherished daughter of Macy and Allie Oakley Evans of James Royster Rd., she was 1 of 8 children. She is survived by her siblings, Virginia Mae Evans of Poquoson, VA, Allie Jean Evans Ide, of Grassy Creek, VA, James Earl Evans, of Chewelah, WA, and many loving nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. Rubylee moved to Newport News, VA to work as a bookkeeper, where she met Everette B. Farmer, her treasured husband of 40 years.
Bedrock of her family, Rubylee was a kind and generous caretaker of all living creatures, human and animal. She is remembered for her warm heart, grace, eloquence, infectious laugh, and joyful spirit. Rubylee never met a person who was not a friend. She was a contributor to the Oxford Ledger, a gifted portrait and landscape artist, and an avid historian. An exceptional musician, she played the piano and dulcimer and sang in the church choir. Rubylee was a devoted member of the Geneva Presbyterian Church, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Daughters of the Confederacy.
Celebration of life visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on July 20, 2015, at Geneva Presbyterian Church.
Celebration of life services will be held at 11:00 AM on July 20, 2015, at Geneva Presbyterian Church, officiated by her devoted friend Rev. Jason Leonard, Pastor of Geneva, Hebron, and Oakhill Presbyterian Churches, followed by the burial at South Granville Memorial Gardens. Music was provided by pianist and singer Ruby Royster, whose mother was a friend of Rubylee, and singer Melanie Williams.
