His Life

Laid to Rest - 7 December 2013

December 8, 2013

Today our friend and colleague Russell Trounce was laid to rest. In the morning the family had a private viewing and burial, and this afternoon there was a remembrance and celebration of his life. Russ’ father and four brothers each shared remarks and memories and I wish you had the opportunity to hear them. As is not likely a surprise for any of you, Russ was regarded by all as the lynchpin of his large family, a force of life, energy, and joy. Russ loved sports and particularly, playing basketball. Many stories were told of how he coached and mentored the youth teams, and how on the court his competitive nature and leadership was always on display.

I spoke with Allie, Jim his father, brothers, and friends. Their Faith is very strong and clearly sustains them through a challenging time. With each I shared your wishes. In turn, they asked me to thank you for sharing your memories on the memorial website. Jim in particular marveled at the number of people from around the world that Russ so genuinely touched.

Our community was well represented by colleagues from the IDOC days on Little Santa Monica Boulevard to his team at Elanex today. It is an unfortunate reason for a reunion of old friends, but ultimately, Russ is the ribbon that binds us together at this time.

Finally, last night thanks to a couple of generous donations we surpassed $10,000 for the Russell Trounce Memorial Fund. I delivered the first payment to the Foundation and again thank each of you for your kindness.

For this past week, and likely for the weeks to come, it is too quiet, indeed hollow, without Russ’ energy, his presence, and in particular his unwavering optimism that always lifted us. I miss him terribly — but I am and hope you are comforted by great memories and time spent with a wonderful man.  -DJP

Obituary – Russell Scott Trounce – 1968 to 2013

Obituary – Russell Scott Trounce – 1968 to 2013

Beloved Husband, Father, Son, Brother, Uncle, and Friend

Russell Scott Trounce, age 45, of Fountain Valley, California died Saturday morning, November 30, 2013.

Russ was born September 12, 1968 in Long Beach, California to William James “Jim” Trounce II and Patricia Ann Daniels. Russ is the oldest of five brothers: Rob (Kelli), Ryan (Shawn), Tyler (Andrea), and Craig (Amber). On August 10, 1990, he married Allison Sanders in the Los Angeles Temple.

Russ had many important and impactful roles throughout his life. He was a dedicated husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend – but above all and first and foremost, he was a Husband and a Father. He believed in the sacred responsibility of fathers and mothers and that as a husband he was an equal partner with his wife Allie. Together, they raised a beautiful family where happiness and love were centered upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ – faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and fun are quietly, simply, and naturally ever-present in their lives.

Russ and Allie are the parents of five wonderful children – Nicolas (age 21), Tanner (age 18), Adam (age 15), Lauren (age 11), and Cassidy (age 8). Russ loves his large extended family, which includes many nieces and nephews who adore him.

Russ’s world was large and he and his family are loved by many. Russ always extended an open invitation to join him on his many adventures and play. Russ was an “impact player”. He had a positive impact everywhere he went. While his personality was larger than life, he was humble and unassuming. His ability to plan and carry out plans is legendary.

Russ was a man of character and a man of purpose. He graduated from Ocean View High School in 1986. He earned his Eagle rank as a Boy Scout. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish and Business from Brigham Young University. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he honorably served in the Cali, Columbia Mission from 1987 through 1989. He has since served selflessly in many church service callings. Russ’s career was in the Translation and Localization industry. He served for many years in executive and leadership positions, most recently as Senior Vice President of Sales.

Russ, we love you with all our hearts. We are so saddened and will miss you, but know that you are well and that we will only be apart for a time.
