Another year has passed without you. As life gets away from us, the pain we carry is still in our hearts. So as I think of you today, as I often think of you, I carry the weight of losing someone so dear to me. For grandmothers are special beings. I carry the love you had for each of us and the special memories that were created. I love and miss you always. Never forgotten Gramma

Thinking about the lady with the many hats today. Actually, I think about her often. Sometimes I feel like I hear her voice saying "oh, mija!" Such a beautiful soul. I know you are safe in God's memory. I miss you today, but I have confidence I will be with you for eternity. I will always love my Grandma

The Stick

March 19, 2015

Haha. I sit here and think of Grandma Sally and her choice of weapons..the stick. :) She would never use it on us, I think it was more of a scare tactic than anything. Lol. To shake and wave around at anyone who may be acting out of place.

Gramma was a very patient woman, but she was also very concerned about the wellbeing of her family.  I remember when Uncle Terry had went out for the day. No big deal, he was about 50 years old at the time. But then it started to get close to sunset and she started to worry about him walking around the neighborhood at night.  She had a pretty good idea where he went, because he had taken off walking and she knew he wouldn't walk too far. That was another thing..she knew her kids and gave them certain freedoms to be who they were. She loved us all no matter what.  So forgiving.
So anyways, she asked me if I could give her a ride to look for him.  Of course I would, she didn't worry to often over Uncle Terry.  Before she got in my car, she searched for the biggest stick she could find. I was like "O my gosh, Gramma. What are you going to do with that?" She goes "You'll see" Im like ookay. Let's see where this goes. Haha.
So we drive by the movie store and she gets out, but he's not there.  So we drive around the parking lot and there he is with some friends and she spots him.
She gets out. "Terry. What are you doing it's getting late" and she sets the stick at her side. His friends are quick to politely greet her and step back out of the way as Uncle puts his head down and walks toward the car.  "It's time to go home now" she says. He doesn't argue with her in front of his friends. As he gets in the car he suddenly appears to me like that of her son. No matter how old he is.
And she did. She loved her kids, her family. No one was ever to old to hold her hand. To lay next to her.  To give her a hug or kiss on the forehead. She loved love.  And she was an excellent examply of it.
I look forward with all my heart to the day that we can be together again.
