Samuel George Doxey, born January 22, 1930 in Portland, Oregon, was the first child of Grace Judd and Floyd Samuel Doxey.  At the age of ten years, after his father died, he moved with his family to Los Angeles, California where his mother's parent's lived.  Sam attended Angeles Mesa Grade School, Audubon Jr. High School and Manual Arts High School in Los Angeles, California;  he attended Irving Jr. High School in Salt Lake City for one year; went to Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah from September 1947 to June 1951 where he was active in student government, President of Val Hyric social unit, Banyan Yearbook Sales Manager, and graduated in Accounting and Business Administration.  He married Elaine Hendrix, whom he met at BYU, on 16 March 1951 at the Salt Lake LDS Temple.  He did graduate studies at BYU while concurrently employed at Geneva Works and received his Master's degree in Accounting in June 1961.

Sam entered the US Navy in 1951 for four years active enlisted duty in data processing assignments.  He remained as an active Naval Reservist until January 1990 when he retired as Captain after 39 years of Naval service which included extensive work with NATO and the US Naval Academy and as Commanding Officer to two Naval Units.

Sam worked for US Steel Corporation for nearly 30 years in computer systems and programming management at Geneva Works and its coal and ore mining locations.  He worked during several years in overseas assignments as a computer consultant in Turkey, Spain, Chile and training Taiwanese computer professionals.

He was active in the LDS Church having served as Bishop of two Wards, as Utah South Area Direction of Correctional Services, as Utah South Area Director of Public Affairs with his wife, as a Stake High Counselor, in a Branch Presidency at the Missionary Training Center, Stake and Ward Young Men's President, Stake and Ward Clerk and Stake Executive Secretary and served two full time Public Affairs missions with his wife - one as Assistant Directors to the Europe North Area in England in 1992-94 and the other as Missionary Coordinators at Church headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1994-96.  Sam served two Stake Missions, one in Berkley California and the other in Orem Utah South Stake.

He served as State President of the Navy League, State Coordinator for the US Naval Academy (at Annapolis), and as Chapter President of the Utah County Military Officers Association, the Utah County Navy League and the Central Utah Reserve Officers Association.  He had served as Vice Chairman of Governor Matheson's State of Utah Computer Steering Board.

In 1955, Sam and Elaine brought their family to Orem where he resided until 2001.  He and Elaine moved to Pleasant Grove in 2001 and lived there until his death.  He is survived by his wife Elaine Hendrix Doxey, his sister Margaret Doxey Hansen, and four living children:  Samuel Craig Doxey; Dianne (Larry) Madsen; Ross Wayne (Lynnette) Doxey; Leanne (Duncan) Wright.  They have fourteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Same's great love was his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, with special interests in travel, photography, genealogy, fishing, body surfing, ping pong and enduring to the end with steadfast stamina.

As the family Sam, we will miss him dearly, but acknowledge the Lord's tender mercies in his peaceful passing, after valiantly fighting for four years with three separate cancers.  We also acknnowledge all the kindnesses rendered to him by special friends in recent weeks and years.  We give special thanks to friends from American Fork Hospital and Heritage Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at the Northfield 11th Ward Chapel, 1541 North 1300 West, Pleasant Grove, Friday, May 26, 2006, at 2:00pm.  Friends may call at the Berg Mortuary of Provo, 185 East Center Street, Thursday evening, from 6-8pm, or Friday at the Ward Chapel, from 12:00 to 1:30pm.  Interment, Timpanogos Memorial Gardens, 1000 North 400 East, Orem.  Condolences may be sent to info@bergmortuary.com  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Huntsman Cancer Research Center.
