Her Life

My big sister

January 15, 2013

Schery was born on July 19, 1961 to Marvin J and Mary Landis. I don't remember my sister not being there. From the time we were children we had a special bond. We were only 18 months apart in age. She was my friend, confidant and protector. She was the sweetest most gentle person I ever had in my life. She is missed and still much loved.

We were reared in a very small town called Bainbridge in Pennsylvania. We had only each other to play with and got very creative with our games. Playing kickball, baseball and other games with just the two of us, We always laughed later in our lives thinking of how we created a way to play with just the two of us.I still remember her first day of school I couldn't belive she left me by myself. I cried until she got home that day. I wanted to go with her. My mother tried to explain that I'd be able to go with her the following year but I didn't understand as I was ony 4 years old. when I did start school the following year; we would  walk to school togeher every day.The day I locked myself in the school bathroom in the kindergarten class the teacher had to get her to tell me how to get out. (the door had to be removed as I couldn't work the lock) All the kids picked on me because I was crying and I told them to leave me alone or my big sister would beat them up, I know, it's ridiculous but she always protected me when we were small. The day Scheryl became a crossing guard at the corner down the street from our house I would always wait for her to finish so I could walk with her. Her friends were my friends. She would not allow people to treat me badly and I returned the favor. We wold go to the playground with her frinds Liz and Terri and tell ghost stories and play in the church cemetary.

We shared everything, one year at halloween she was very sick and not able to go trick or treating, She was upset at missing out on all the candy. Our older brother John took me by myself with my little red wagon with two bags in it one for me and one for Scheryl, At every stop I would ask if I could have one for me and one for my sister who was sick. I guess I was cute because everyone gave me two treats that year. (Everyone in town knew us, that's just how small the town was) To be finished later....
