ForeverMissed

W. Scott Bishop , 57, passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, September 6, 2019 in Hot Springs, AR after a sudden and unexpected diagnosis of Glioblastoma brain cancer this summer. He leaves a legacy of fun and laughter to all who knew him.  He was fearless in life, having no regrets, pursuing all passions while taking the time to enjoy the sunsets.  Often the personality in the room, he will be deeply missed by many.  AKA Boyfriend, Pops, Brother, Scooter, Dad, Son – he loved well and was loved back same.  We’ll miss his boisterous spirit, his smile, his hugs and encouragement.  We are comforted in that we know, and he knew, his permanent Heavenly home awaited.

He was an active member (tuba player) of the Immanuel Baptist Church Orchestra and Quintet and spent most of his professional life in insurance.  And as a graduate of the University of Arkansas and alumni member of the Razorback Band, he could call the Hogs with the best of them. Originally, from Little Rock, he graduated Central High School in 1980.  He loved music, lake life, his motorcycle and his church. He was passionate about his wife, Robin, with many shared adventures often via their motorcycle. He played hard, loved passionately and lived well. You could often hear him saying “You’ve/We’ve/God’s Got This”, “Love You Girlfriend”, “It Doesn’t Get Much Better Than This”, “What Could Go Wrong?” and many other one liners.  He was quick witted always bringing a smile to your face with his sometimes bold remarks.  You always knew where you stood with this one.  A true one of a kind.

Scott is survived by his wife, Robin (Kee) Bishop, children, Brooke Hamilton, Hannah Bishop and Taylor (Baillie) Hamilton and mother, Wanda R Bishop.  In addition, a grandson, Harlan, mother-in-law, Carolyn Kee, father-in-law, Marvin (Waunda) Kee, sister and brother-in-law, Mark & Patti Bennett, nieces, Elizabeth Bennett and Caitlin (Chris) Elkins, and nephew, Andrew Bennett.  He is preceded in death by his father, J. Paul Bishop.  In addition, a multitude of cousins, aunts, uncles and friends that will all miss him greatly.

A memorial service is scheduled at Immanuel Baptist Church (Little Rock, AR) on Friday 9/13 at 11 am with Rex Horne officiating.  A drop-in Celebration of Life will be Saturday 9/14 at his home in Hot Springs with fireworks and balloon release at dusk (sunset).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church in his memory.

I worked with Scott at Dun & Bradstreet from 1985 until the office closed in 1991, and will always remember the fun side of this young man. We had a close working relationship as did everyone in that office at the time, especially the 2 years before the office closed.

I was shocked when i saw the obit because Scott was always so full of life as said in the memories of others. Rest in peace Scott. You are remembered.

The times I was in his presence....the love he showed to Robin was palpable....He loved her with the kind of love that songs are written about...it was poetic....strong and unfailing....I will always remember him like that.

His Life

School, Church, Music & Motorcycles

September 9, 2019
Scott graduated Central High School in 1980.  He was very involved in the band and music programs and continued thru college at the University of Arkansas pursing same.  He was a tuba player in both high school and college but I'm told he began as a trumpet player in his early years.  I've heard many a story about these years.  If you have one, be sure to post under stories!

Unknown to many, he was also an accomplished piano player.   It was quite the treat to have him play at Christmas - which was about the only time he would do so in his later years.  And I loved his voice - what a great voice.  He sang in choir at times along the way but as it would conflict with the band and music responsibilities at times, he didn't pursue it much.  The man had talent.

Of course, church was a big part of his life having been at the Immanuel Baptist since 1971.  We both grew up at this church, attending many a mission trip together, choir, handbells, etc.  He took me to my 9th grade prom back in the day.  Unfortunately, at the time, neither of us were much attracted to the other - I thought he was obnoxious.  And he was in a typical teenage boy way.  He grew out of it - mostly.  :)

He started riding motorcycles at an early age.  He and his dad, Paul Bishop, bought matching Honda Hurricane's back in the day and would often ride together.  Those two were quite the pair, evidently.  Scott inherited Paul's ability to have fun so you can imagine what those escapades would have been like.  They taught the MSF (Motorcycle Safety Foundation) classes at UALR for many years.  I would have taken my first class around that time at that location, but evidently just missed them.  What a hoot that would have been!  He was quite the accomplished rider and would ride often.

For such a great match, we often wondered why we didn't hook up earlier in life.  We decided that it just wasn't our time - there were other people, kids, events that needed to take place that wouldn't have if that had happened.  We valued and enjoyed our time together, and I'm very thankful for that, but sure wish there had been more of it.   I miss him terribly.

Recent stories

Possum

September 9, 2019
There will be many stories over the next few days and months to be added, but one I'll never forget is the "possum".  He would often leave his motorcycle on the front porch of his then home.  He jumped on bike to head to my place that evening and about the time he hit the freeway and freeway speeds, a possum came out from below the fairing above the handle bars of bike climbing on tank, manages to bite his gloved hand before he snatches it with the other and throws it to ground - all while going 70 on an interstate.  It was such an incredulous event, I was sure he was exaggerating a bit. But there they were - possum footprints were on the tank of bike when he arrived.  Needless to say he was a bit exited, but being the accomplished rider he was, it was all handled with his usual composure.  I bet the cars around him were quite surprised.  Bye Bye Possum.

Just about everyone has a "Scott" story - or two, or three.  Be sure to post here or under Tributes - I'd love to read them.
