Her Life

Shelby W. Johnson, the daughter of Julia B. Harmon and the late Jack Wilson, Sr. was born March 5, 1959 in Chambers County, AL.  She departed this life on Friday, March 8, 2013 at West Georgia Medical Center, LaGrange, GA.

Shelby confessed Christ at an early age and united with the St. John Baptist Church where she was a faithful member.  Shelby was very involved in the church, serving as: Co-Supervisor of Sunbeam Band Dept., Secretary of the Alabama Circle of the General Missionary Society and was a former member of the Youth Choir and Junior Ushers.   Shelby was very creative with her Homecoming and Church Anniversary skits and very vocal in praising the Lord.

Shelby attended the Lanett City Schools and was a member of the 1976 graduating class of Lanett High School.  During her high school years, she was involved in many activities.  She was a member of the Homecoming Court, Prep Club, Future Homemakers of America (Treasurer); Future Business Leaders of America; Junior Class Treasurer; L (Athletic) Club; Cheerleader( all four years), but Head Cheerleader her senior year.

Shelby never met a stranger. She always greeted you with a big smile. She was an excellent cook and baker.  If you tasted her food once, you would always want more.

Shelby was preceded in death by her grandmother, Izzella B. Fielder and her step father, York Harmon, Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her loving husband, Willie Jerome Johnson, Sr., Lanett, AL; two loving children, Willie Jerome ( Kemiya)Johnson, Jr., Stockbridge, GA; Jetorrie Johnson, Lanett, AL; a very special grandson, Allen Matorion Foster, Lanett, AL; a devoted mother, Julia B. Harmon, Lanett, AL; three sisters, Tammy (Cliff) Lyons, Camp Hill, AL; Tara Jackson- Whitehead  and Erica Jackson, Louisville, KY; seven brothers, Jack (Linda) Wilson, Jr., Columbia, SC, Karl(Kay)Wilson, Anthony(Maria)Wilson and Leon Ross III,  Columbus, OH; Michael (Angel) Harmon, Atlanta, GA; Geoffrey Harmon, Indianapolis, IN; Calvin(Sharon)Peterson, Valley, AL; four sisters-in-law, Mary J. Johnson, Linda (Cliff)Willis, Diane Scott and Brenda Davidson, Lanett, AL; three brothers-in-law, Robert(Joann)Johnson and Tracy St. George, Lanett, AL; John Johnson, New York, NY; five aunts, Georgia Bradshaw, East Point, GA; Carrie Wilson, Columbus, OH; Paulette Hill, Cincinnati, OH; Mandy Brooks, Chicago, IL and Zannie Ree Hutchinson, Anniston, AL; one uncle, Henry (Mary) Brooks, Toledo, OH; two special friends, Mary Dean Harmon and Boot Jackson.
