Her Life
September 14, 2015

Mrs. Jones was born in Tampa, Florida on August 14, 1945 to the late, Charlotte Creel Joh-Childs and Leopold Edwin Joh. From a very early age it was clear that little Sherry was going to possess a caring disposition that would constantly be demonstrated in the manner in which she treated others. Throughout her school career she was a popular cheerleader. After high school she attended college and pursued a career as a flight attendant with Northwest Airlines. When she became a wife and mother she used her mathematical skills to enter the banking industry. She was known for her keen perception of identifying counterfeit bills. After moving to Franklin, Georgia she and her husband Skip became popular restaurateurs when they opened the popular Captain Billy’s! People came from far and near to have their delicious buffet, with “Sherry’s Lightly Dusted Shrimp” being a favorite! Her dedication to the community became evident after only a short while. The couple became members of Franklin First Baptist Church where Sherry led a women’s bible study, and worked with vacation bible school. They were both generous contributors to the community, and Sherry especially enjoyed helping with any type of building project. She loved horseback riding, and hunting with her father. She was quick to tell you she was a tom Boy who did not mind getting her hands dirty to accomplish any task, but the inner and outer beauty possessed by “Mrs. Sherry” was one that could light any room, and made all those who witnessed her true Christian faith better for having known her. Other than her God, the delight of her life was being a wife, mother, and grandmother to her wonderful family. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Charles “Skip” Jones of Franklin, GA.; two daughters, Leanne Cross of Clearwater, FL., and Karlin Kendall (Timothy) of Wellington, FL.; three sisters, Charlene Odem (David) of Cartersville, GA., Taffee Oaks of Woodland, AL., and Pennee Rowland of Palm Harbour, FL.; one brother, Lepold “Fritz” Joh of Franklin, GA.; and four adoring grandchildren.
