Late Sir, Chief (Dr.) Christopher Anamanjo Ekwenibe, popularly known as Onowu or Ezeani Chinyeluaku was born at Neni, in 1930 to the family of Late Ekwenibe and Nwdiulu Ogamba of Obivom Umuabani Village, Neni in Anaocha Local government Area of Anambra State, South East, Nigeria.

Onowu as he was fondly called, successfully finished his early education in 1944 and started trading at Umuahia and moved to jos in 1947 to join his Elder brother Late Raphael Ifedilichukwu Ekwenibe. They both engaged in fish trading business until 1950, when young Onowu went to Lagos to establish a branch of their business there. He then went on to establish a commercial supermarket, dealing on general goods; representing the major reputable companies in Lagos. He opened up more outlets in Port Harcourt etc. He continued this viable and very successful business which was disrupted during on the civil war in Nigeria, after war. In 1971, Onowu, incorporated Ekwenibe & Sons Trading Company Limited as a private Limited Liability company. The company progressed to become a well known name in the world of business; opening up branches at Onitsha, Markurdi, Enugu, and other towns.
