His Life

Eighteen years gone but never to be forgotten

March 27, 2019

Today, I choose to celebrate you. No more tears of sorrow Daddy because I know of a truth, you are in heaven.

Eighteen years have gone by without you my first teacher, admirer, mentor, hero and I could never ask for another father. Your simplicity, intelligence, eloquence, love for family, friends and strangers is one I strive to emulate as I journey on the path of life.
I cherish your love and especially my last time with you. You made me sit on your laps and fed me cashew nuts and when I protested that I was too grown up, you hushed me saying I will never be too old to sit on your laps. I'm a Daddy's girl and I'm forever grateful.
Thank you for being a great motivator, dependable and selfless friend! A loving husband for our Mum and above all the World's best Daddy for my siblings and I.
I join the hosts of heaven to rejoice and celebrate your life. Your footprints on the sands of time is remembered. Your legacy is not lost as we continue to live your life of love, generosity and sharing Christ in all we do.
So I celebrate you today my Hero! friend!! Daddy forever!!!❤❤❤

Born at Mercy Children's Hospital in Lagos as the fourth child to Mr and Mrs Martin Mosieli Ogbugoh, he grew up a brilliant lover of education who aspired to be the best in his chosen career. Fondly called Lugard for his astuteness and brilliance; he was also known as JOMO by his peers and contemporaries.

With humble beginnings of determination and persistence when his father could not fund his education beyond secondary education despite his brilliant results attained at the London GCE, he took on a teaching job after having attended the Teachers' training college. After three years of teaching, he gained admission into the prestigious University of Lagos to read on full scholarship where he graduated with honors.

A true lover of family, he chose to work with the state government so he could be near his parents. In 1980, he was again awarded a full scholarship for a Masters degree from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom where excelled greatly and on return to Nigeria was appointed to start the Agricultural Development Program in his state. Once again in 1989, he went to George Washington University for further study on scholarship. He was the first Program Manager of the Delta State Agricultural Development Program and also a pioneer clerk of the Delta State House of Assembly. He rose to the peak of the civil service career of a Permanent Secretary before he retired.

A tremendous lover of education, he instilled in his Children the value of education and taught us that "Education is the only true legacy a parent could give his children ".  My father was the best English teacher I ever had and he ensured all who came across him learnt something new to their vocabulary.

He was a philanthropist who ensured every child was given an opportunity to be schooled. A great conversationalist, he would engage people in discussions ranging from History, politics to science.

A good Catholic Christian, he served God through his church and service to others.

He loved his wife and children very much and never ceased to show and share his love.
