Anchorage, Alaska, resident Spencer Christian Ballenger, 26, died suddenly in Eagle River, Alaska, on Oct. 30, 2015, at 1:47 a.m. A Celebration of Spencer's life will be held on Nov. 5, 2015, at the Anchorage Funeral Home, 1800 Dare Avenue in Anchorage. A visitation and viewing will begin at 12:30 p.m., with an Artists sendoff beginning at 1:30 p.m. - friends will sign and decorate Spencer's casket. A burial at the Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery will be held afterwards, at 3 p.m. Spencer was born on June 13, 1989, in Louisville, Ky., and moved to Anchorage in 1999. He was a naturally gifted artist who was self employed as a tattoo artist. The family wrote, "Spencer cared about the safety of everyone: if you needed him with words or thought, he was there, earning his nickname of 'Ghost.' He was strong in body, heart and soul. He loved his family; he teased you with jokes, laughter and chased you around the house all the while laughing. His passion was drawing and with that he developed into a natural artist. Tattoos would just come pouring out with his free handed style." Spencer was preceded in death by his father, Grady Lee Caldwell. He was survived by his mother and stepfather, Jacquelyn L. Ballenger and Jerome Semaken; his sister, Ayanna Hill-Ballenger; his grandmother and grandfather, Clara A. Ballenger and Joseph E. Ballenger; grandmother and grandfather, Flossie Ferral and Grady L. Caldwell Sr.; his step-grandmother, Josephine Semaken; and his three aunts, Pamela J. Ballenger, Joyce A. Ballenger and Joella Singleton. He is also survived by two uncles, Patrick Ballenger and Marrion Butler Jr.; and his beloved dog, "Casper." Family donations to help develop a headstone for Spencer would humbly be accepted and any floral donations would also be welcomed.
