Let the memory of SSgt Jeremy be with us forever

Bessa, Staff Sgt. Jeremy E. Staff Sgt. Jeremy E. Bessa, 26, beloved husband, son, brother and devoted father, was killed in action in Afghanistan on February 20, 2009, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. A member of the 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), Bessa deployed to Afghanistan in January 2009, his third deployment in support of the Global War on Terror and second deployment to Afghanistan. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii on May 11, 1982, Staff Sgt. Bessa volunteered for military service in April 2002 following the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Earning the coveted "Green Beret" in March of 2007, Bessa was assigned to 3rd Special Forces Group at Fort Bragg, N.C. as a Special Forces Communications Sergeant.

At the time of Jeremy's death, it seemed he had it all. A beautiful
wife, Lindsey. They had recently had a son, Carson. Life was going
good. Jeremy was such a good father for 7 weeks after Carson was born.
He really looked forward to being a parent to Carson, taking the
responsibility extremely serious. But he had to deploy and was KIA
less then 3 1/2 weeks later. Jeremy was very easy going and happy.
Everyone wanted to be around him. He was a younger brother who liked
to be right by his older brother's side while growing up. He was an
older brother, who always had time and patience with his younger
siblings. Playing with them when they were small and hanging out with
them when they were teenagers. Jeremy taught himself to play guitar
and continued to play to the end. Even taking his guitar on
deployment. Jeremy was the all around great guy, that each and
everyone of us will miss forever.

Memorial Tributes

"My first memory of Jeremy is when he was a little boy and your family was stationed at Fort Lewis. Julie and I played softball together and the kids played on the playground nearby. I have a vivid memory of
Chris and Jeremy watching over Brianna and Joel. That never changed through the years. I told the story recently about Jeremy, Julie and I moving a couch into his dorm room. We had to haul it up several flights of stairs. It didn't bother Jeremy, and he didn't flinch to be seen with two "old ladies" in the barracks. Julie and I both laughed after we left. He loved his mom and his family."

"To Julie, I know how hard it is for you every time Jeremy's birthday, or the day of his transition approches, but Know that my prayers are with you!  You are a wonderful person, and I'm sure a wonderful mother.  Everytime you think of your son, know that he is right there in your heart!!!  I love you, and may God give you peace during these times, and always!!!!"

"To Jeremy's mother and family.  If Jeremy was my son's friend, I know he was a good person.  My son was in Afghanistan with Jeremy and I remember hearing about Jeremy in the National news and wondered if Jerrald knew him....found out after my son's passing he did.  I had a dream back some months ago and he was with a friend....mayb it was Jeremy?   I can tell you that they were happy and in a beautiful place and getting read to go fishing.  I saw them walking away with fishing poles and happy....love and hugs from IA"

"To Jeremy's family.  My son Jerrald Meek served with Jeremy in Afghanistan.  He mentioned him a a letter from jail a year ago.  Jerrald suffered from PSTD and suffered survivors guilt.  The fact that he mentioned Jeremy who was the only soldier he mentioned  he said they were friends.  Julie, as a mom I know how much it hurts to lose a son, we lost Jerrald on August 26, 2014.  Lindsey, to you and your son just know that I have a daughter-in -law and a grand daughter that miss my Jerrald too and my heart goes out to all of you...hugs"
