Stan was a true gentleman, a scholar, a teacher, a friend and a beloved and devoted figure in his extended family

Stanley Everett Iversen (Stan) passed away suddenly late Saturday morning, June 14, 2014, at his home in Los Gatos. He was 80 years young.

Stan was a true gentleman in every sense of the word. He was thoughtful, considerate, kind and generous and he lived life to its fullest. He was a dedicated entrepreneur and business man who cared deeply about his work at Suncrest Nurseries and his employees. The Santa Cruz County Farm Bureau named Stan "Farmer of the Year" in 2011. He had many roles in his life and performed all to perfection: he was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, father-in-law, brother-in-law and friend. He was an avid reader, loved to travel, and loved good food and conversation with close friends over a good glass of wine or that occassional Manhattan. Stan loved his town of Los Gatos and felt fortunate to spend most of his life there.

Stan's family was a wonderful mosaic; he is survived by his wife Linda, his children and their partner/spouses: Karsten (Leslie), Kathren (John) and Erik (Sarah), his grandchildren Alex and Sean, his former wife Nancy, his sister Virginia, his niece Mary Anne (Bob), nephews Bill (Jane) and Chris (Dee), as well as his blended family: Britt, (Karyn), Pamela, grandchildren Justin, Braden, Ike, Luke, and Genny.

If you had the privelege of knowing Stan, take a moment and share a story of your time together or leave a note or photo here, - so that we can all share in the great experiences we had together with him.

Thank you!

Stan was a big supporter of the "Doctors Without Borders" charity. Instead of sending flowers etc. we encourage you to make a donation to this organization in Stan's honor: https://donate.doctorswithoutborders.org/tribute.cfm

"Nearly two years to the day, Stan's sister, Virginia also has departed this realm. The passing of an era along with the not too distant departure of Virginia's husband William P. Yeager.

All of them were special people. They will be truly missed."

"I worked for Stan many, many years ago (1984-1985) when he was President of SCC Products in Morgan Hill, CA.  He was kind, gentle, and compassionate.  Like many here have said -- he was a true gentleman.  So glad this world was blessed by his presence."

"Stan was a great man and we are so sorry for your loss.  He had a great sense of humor and was so charming!  His smile could light up the room and his gift of great wit & gab was priceless.  His love for his wife and family was so obvious as he beamed when you were next to him or he was telling a funny story that involved one of you.   Please remember to ... "Hold tight to memories for comfort, lean on your friends for strength, and always remember how much you are cared about."

Much love - The Hernan Family (Joseph, Christina, Nick & Connor"

"Stan had fine reasons to be loved by so many. He had the kind of character that allowed him to truly care about people along with the knowledge to give them an informed opinion or a book to help them develop their own. It is heart wrenching realizing he is not with the friends, family, and employees who so deeply cared for him and enjoyed his care in return.

I look forward to the time when we can welcome him back under much better conditions. I wonder how the look of surprise and elation will fill his face seeing the earth filled with the plants and flowers he loved. There will be so much that he will be able to teach all of his great children and great great grand children to come. We will never have to say goodbye to him again. If the scriptures promise of paradise is real and true, if 'the meek shall inherit the earth and live forever upon it' as Psalms 37 says who will be there more than him?"

"My wife, Gloria, and I had the unique pleasure of traveling with Stan and Linda, enjoying that occasional manhattan and of course a good bottle of wine with our many dinners out. Our "book exchanges" will cease but our fond memories of Stan will continue on. He was a large part of our "senior" social group. We will miss him."

"Stan was my Father In Law and I will miss him very much.  Kathy and I married in 1995 and I am so happy to be part of his family for all these years.  Time spent with Stan was fun, interesting or both at the same time.  He was incredibly knowledgeable about so many things.  We would discuss world events, history, business, investing, politics, gardening and so many other topics.  Being an avid reader, he was able to put current events in the bigger context of history and personal experience.  I noticed that even with all this knowledge he would speak with me, rather than to me, a distinction I appreciated.  I will always remember him well and work to live up to his example."

"We had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with Stan a handful of times through Kathy and John Hernan. He was a fascinating man with many interesting stories to share with others. Based on his children alone, he was as successful as any person could ever hope to be. His family are just one of the many gifts that he has left us. He will be missed by both family and friends.

"I think of Uncle Stan with such affection. He was always available and interested in what I was up to.  His demeanor was truly formed by his Iversen/Joles  upbringing, as I have come to know the Denmark family. and the Joles clan.  My mother is much the same in that she is always upbeat and supportive.  It has been a privilege to be a part of such a gracious and welcoming family.  We only wish we could have spent more time together.  Mary Anne"

"Stan's father was my grandfather's brother.  Three Iversen young men and their sister Mary all left Denmark for the US.  They we're the salt of the earth!  I only met Stan once, but I could tell from his demeanor and by the obvious affection his family has for him, that he followed in their footsteps."
