His Life

Stephane Martin April 18 1972-July 24 3013

July 27, 2013

Stephane was born in Port Hope Ontario on April 18 1972 to father Robert Joseph Martin and mother Diane Nemey. He attended school in Florida from Kindergarten until Grade 2.  When he was 8 years old, he and his family moved to New Brunswick where he completed grades 3 through 12.

From a young age Stephane grew up with his father Robert, stepmother Cecile, and younger sister Christina and brother Alexander. Stephane and his mother Diane would visit periodically, however in 1985 Diane passed away. Stephane had twin half-brothers Joël and Jocelyn, but following the passing of Diane he lost contact with them.

As a child and adolescent, Stephane loved to draw, and thrived in his English and art courses. He didn’t much have much enjoyment for mathematics or sciences, and indicated he was ‘bored easily’ and took pride in himself as a creative writer.  His younger sister Christina often turned to Stephane for help with her own creative writing courses, and Stephane became a strong influence on her creative pursuits.

In the early 1990’s Stephane lived in Saint John and was enrolled in two-and-a-half years of studies at the University of New Brunswick. He studied Business Administration in his first year; however, he disliked this area.  In the subsequent one-and-a-half years, Stephane took mostly Sociology and Philosophy classes, which he thoroughly enjoyed and in which he performed well.  But Stephane enjoyed learning outside the classroom and chose to discontinue University at the time.

From 1995 to 1996, Stephane completed a 10 month Web Design Program at Fundy Computer Services Ltd. in New Brunswick. He graduated at the top of his class, and then re-located to Toronto in order to find work in his field.

In the early 2000’s Stephane worked as a Junior Web Designer at an advertising company in Toronto, and then four years as a graphic Designer at an accounting software company, and also a corporate communications and event planning company.

In later years Stephane worked as Building Superintendent at his place of residence at St. Clare’s housing in Toronto ON. He also walked dogs for individuals in his building and offered technical and personal support to individuals in his community.

In his later years, he was reconnected with and enjoyed getting to know his oldest half-brother Robert Martin, and his stepmother Cecile Martin. Cecile and Stephane spoke regularly on the phone and on skype, sometimes for hours. Stephane was quite connected with his half-brother Alexander and his half-sister Christina. Stephane made trips to Florida to visit his brother Alexander, and to Texas and Nova Scotia to check on his little sister Christina. Christina and her husband Dale would visit with Stephane in Toronto yearly.

Stephane accidentally overdosed on opiates in July 2013.

For years he expressed to his family, friends and health care professionals, his interest in teaching, substance abuse counseling, and working with animals.  He loved biking, playing with his cats, watching movies, and playing videogames.  He enjoyed caring for and helping others. He was well loved and people often turned to him for support because he was a great listener. He was loved and will forever be missed and by friends, family and his colleagues.
