Steven Craig Ramsey was born on April 18, 1963 in La Mesa, CA to Loretta Fay VanDyke McDaniel (Ken) and Ronald Ramsey (Patricia) and died on August 5, 2016 in Sacramento, CA after a long battle with advanced melanoma. Steve and his wife of 18 years, Stephanie Sauter Ramsey, were long-time residents of El Dorado Hills, CA. Steve lovingly cared for Stephanie (“Stephy”) until her death in February 1, 2015.

While Steve lived most of his life in California, he also lived in Texas, Oregon, and Vermont. He graduated from Enterprise (OR) High School in 1981 and joined the Navy shortly thereafter, where he served with distinction as an Advanced Electronics Technician. Having spent many years with his granddad learning about radios and electronic equipment, Steve scored higher than any other student in several courses and became an instructor at the Naval Training Facility in Vallejo, CA. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1988.
In 1982, Steve married his high school sweetheart, Mary Jo Sweet, and together they cleared a 2-acre parcel of land in the foothills near Sacramento, CA and built an A-frame home and an 800 sq. ft. garage. They had two children: Shelbe Melissa, born in 1991 and Nicholas Craig, born in 1993. Shelbe is now a pastry decorator living in Vancouver, WA and working in Portland, OR. Nick is a diesel mechanic and ranch supervisor in La Grande, OR, and is married to Taylor Michelle. They have a beautiful 6-month-old daughter, Charlotte Mae.

After the Navy, Steve worked as a cellular phone and nautical systems engineer. He became a sea-worthy yacht captain, and he and Stephanie enjoyed many years boating on the Delta with friends. Steve was a Commodore at Tower Marina where he and Stephanie organized many fun-filled boating outings, parties and activities.

Besides his two sets of parents, children and granddaughter, Steve is survived by his grandparents, Nicholas and Yolanda Balli; brothers Scott, Ron (Bubba) and Brian Ramsey, his sister Marsi McDaniel Jesus and their families; his long-time close friend Tom Lukenbill; his sister-in-law Gloria Cosgrove and her children Jaimie and Joey, as well as the rest of the Gunther family.

Steve will be deeply missed by all who knew him and loved him. He will remain in our hearts as the kind, gentle, mild-mannered, caring man who was very intelligent with a dry sense of humor and ability to fix and do most anything! Steve was a great son, brother and friend to have; though missed for now, Steve will never be forgotten.
