Tributes
Leave a tributeBless you Chris for this memorial to your dad.
He was as fine a man as I have ever known. Always helping anyone who needed help. He always talked about how much he loved his family - each one of them - siblings, wive's, children, parents - and his friends. He was good!!! And he will be missed; but precious memories do linger.
May the God of all comfort and peace be with you!

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone in the family......I know that he is going to be greatly missed.
Steve was like a second father to me. When I was a child he was at every wrestling tournament on every Saturday in the Fall. Between Steve and LaDonna, Pat and Janet Johnson, and the Henderson family, an entire generation of young Norman wrestlers were well cared for and looked after. In fifth grade I had to wrestle a girl twice in the same tournament. I had never wrestled a girl before and had never seen anyone else do it either. Apparently neither had Steve. The idea that I had to get on the mat and battle a female tickled him to no end. He has never allowed me to forget even into adulthood.
I remember him taking me and Chris somewhere in his truck one evening. We were anxious to get where we were going but Steve never let the speedometer get above the legal limit. Cars were passing us left and right on highway 9 when Chris began getting frustrated and urged his dad to pick up the pace. Without raising his voice Steve, as he coasted to a stop at a red light, reminded Chris that all those cars that rushed past him were sitting there with us at the light. The phrase he used was "everyone's always rushing around to get somewhere just so they can sit around and wait."
I will always cherish those two and the many other memories I have growing up with Chris, Tracey, LaDonna, and Steve in my life. I have been fortunate to know them all.

Dad didn't want a funeral service, so we will be having a celebration of his life that will be held in a couple of weeks. We will share the date as soon as we know when and where it will be held. Please take time and share any stories you have or just sign so we can keep track of who visits.

While Driving one day...
There are many stories, but I picked this one to share.
One day as I was driving north on Flood Avenue, I came to a stop at the intersection of Flood & Robinson in my City car. Shortly after coming to a stop, I felt my car being nudged slightly forward. There was no jolt from impact, but just a nudge where contact was made. Immediately after that, I felt my car being nudged forward again. I was annoyed and thinking, what is this person doing behind me? As I turned and looked back, I saw Steve smiling. He had ever so gingerly inched up to the back of my City vehicle without causing any damage and nudged the car forward twice. I made a gesture, smiled and then proceeded on my way. It was a very carefully and skilfully executed joke that only Steve could do.
