Sue was born in Enfield in 1951, the daughter of two teachers. She and her brother Tim lived out their childhood in this area, moving a number of times around the suburban sprawl of North London. From here she went on to study English literature at Sheffield University. After training as a teacher she taught English at several schools, notably St Mary’s in Calne and Monkton Combe near Bath. She married Peter. She moved to Bradford-on-Avon. She had a son, Simon and daughter, Josie. She set down roots and established an extensive network of friends here. After a brief stay in Cumbria she returned to her beloved Wiltshire. Her health began to fail her in the last fifteen years of her life, as did her marriage – but as you all know, she faced these many challenges with generosity and formidable strength of character.
