Sue Barber age 62 of Tyler passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home. Memorial Service will be May 13, 2019 5:00PM at the Tyler Alliance Church located at 202 Linwood St. Tyler, MN Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Burial will be at a later date. Susan “Sue” Kay (Gordon) Barber was born to Manley and Betty (Kerr) Gordon on October 14, 1956 in San Jose, CA She was baptized in Morgan Hill, CA. The family moved to Tyler, MN in 1964. She was confirmed at St. Dionysius Church in Tyler, MN in 1968.
She graduated from Tyler High School in Tyler, MN in 1976 where she was homecoming queen and class president. She attended St. Cloud State for college. On January 14, 1984 Sue married Bill Barber, and their marriage was blessed with three children. Sue was a homemaker for many years while her children grew by Arco, MN. For the past several years she worked at Danebod Village and enjoyed her work and the people very much.
Sue enjoyed working outside on the farm. She raised many horses and dogs. She had a special connection with her animals. She was creative and a talented artist. She was very proud of her children, and loved her grandchildren dearly. She always had baked goods, treats, and taco dip available for guests.
Sue’s last residence was Morning Sun Apartments in Tyler, MN. Sue was diagnosed with oral cancer in October 2017. She passed away peacefully at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home on May 1, 2019 with her children by her side after her long battle with cancer. Sue formed truly special relationships with her caretakers while in hospice and at the nursing home. She donated her body to the University of Minnesota for the Anatomy Bequest Program for research.
Sue will be lovingly remembered by her children Amber and (Damon) Gomez, (Perry, KS) Brittany and (Marc) Venekamp, (Elkton, SD) Buck (Heidi) Barber (Aurora, SD).
Grandchildren – Ethan, Colton, and Brayden Gomez; Hudson Venekamp; & Brynn Barber
Brothers– Gary and (Pat) and Alan and (Diane) and James
Sisters – Kathi (Harvey) Dressen, Marlene Lazerenko, Rita (Gary) Heldt, and many cousins and nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents, sister Patricia and grandchild Ella Barber.
