Conrad John Adams

Conrad was born in New Zealand and lived in Greymouth.

He had two children who, in the words of his brother Clayton, he "loved more than anything in the world".

Conrad had worked in gold and coal mines for 25 years, and was a keen sportsman who enjoyed diving and running ultra-marathons.

He attended Highveld Park High School in Secunda, a mining town in South Africa's Mpumalanga province.  He worked in the mines there for a number of years after he finished high school, before moving to New Zealand.

Conrad was a deputy at the Pike River mine.

Malcolm was originally from Fife, Scotland, where he attended Madras College in St Andrews.

He worked in Australian gold mines for two years, before coming to the Pike River coal mine.

He was engaged to marry NZ fiancee Amanda on December 18, 2010.

He had wanted to be a miner all his life.

He was on his first underground shift at the mine on the day of the first explosion.

He had turned 17 on November 18, just the day before.

His wife, Lauryn, left the following comment on nzherald's message board:

"Good-bye my darling husband, beautiful man, amazing Father and best friend. Thanks to those that cared and have left messages for me. He died young, went out with his name in lights at a U2 Concert, for those that know my husband, that should give you a smile. Cheers Babe, love you for-ever, your wife Lauryn."
