About Tom

March 7, 2015

Thomas Clyde O’Brien, 79, passed away on February 10, 2015 in Glendale, Arizona. He was born on September 26, 1935 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, to Ervin and Alice O’Brien.

Tom grew up in Bennett Location, a tiny mining town in Northern Minnesota. He graduated from Keewatin High School and received a degree in elementary education from Winona State Teacher’s College in Winona, Minnesota. He lived for extended periods of time in Farmington, Cohasset, Grand Rapids, and Coon Rapids (all in Minnesota) and the Phoenix area of Arizona.

“Terrible Tom” is remembered for his always-cheery disposition, his ability to make friends anytime and anywhere, and his deep love for the Northern Minnesota area where he grew up.

Tom is survived by children Tim (Edith) O’Brien of Oaxaca, Mexico; Colleen (Pete Knapp) O’Brien of Maple Grove, MN; and Dan (Rebecca) O’Brien of Hudson, WI; sister Bernadette; special loved ones Penelope, Garrick, Ryan and Kent; companion Penny; grandchildren Chris, Trevor, Forrest, Skyler, Alex, Ulysses and Edward; and many other family members, friends and loved ones.
