His Life

The Chairman of Bear River

May 1, 2014

Tom fell in love with the people and land of Bear River. Early on, he started constructing hanging chairs to sell. Later, he worked constructing and refurbishing log homes. He spent time at home raising his children and was a wonderful Daddy. He loved baking homemade buns in the kitchen cookstove. He actually enjoyed felling trees to cut for firewood; his axe was usually close at hand. The coffee pot was always on for visitors, a cup most often in his hand.

He provided a sturdy and secure log cabin, nestled in the pines along Bear River's shore for his family. The tight fit of his logs, the hearts carved here and there, revealed the LOVE and song of his heart. His servanthood spoke volumes of his commitment to his marriage and family.

Though speech at the end was naught, Tom mouthed "Christ is my Savior!" Loving tears filled his eyes as he looked around to family. His last breath was taken here on earth, but what a glorious next moment: at home with Jesus!
