The Life of Thomas Ellis JR

September 21, 2016

Thomas Joseph Ellis son of Rosalind V. Ellis and
Tommy J. Ellis was born December 25, 1971 in Wilmington, DE.
Tommy effecionately known as "Junie" and "Big Van" “rested from his labors” on Friday, September 9, 2016 in
Christiana Hospital.
Tommy received his early education at Christ Our King and was a 1990
graduate of Del Castle High School. He received numerous medals and
awards in shot-put and discus and was first in the state. Tommy also
studied Human Services at Delaware Technical Community College and
then furthered his education by taking online courses majoring in
psychology. Tommy was very astute in grant writing. He was
instrumental in securing grants for the Grand Opera House and Kuumba
Academy Charter School. He also served as Community Leader for
Public Allies of Delaware.
Tommy’s mother started reading the bible to him at an early age as his
“bedtime stories”. He was baptized while in his youth at Christ Our King.
He continued to read his bible, loving the word of God. All through his
adult life, Tommy allowed Psalm 121 to be his guide. He always
remained grateful and hopeful. He loved children and his son and
daughter meant the world to him!
Tommy had a magnetic smile that would light up a room. He was well
loved by many and he returned that love to all those he knew; both family
and friends. He was always positive, encouraging and was a great
“hugger”. Tommy was excited about everything especially about life! He
appreciated life in every form. Tommy’s second greatest love was music
and more music. It didn’t matter what genre, but most of all “old school”,
as well as writing and producing.
There will forever be a void in our hearts as we will always miss Tommy
and hold dear the memories he left with each of us!
Tommy was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Roy and
Rebecca McKintyre.
