Laughter was Daddy's constant companion, through stories, jokes, teasing, and more.  He was able to find humor in almost every situation - passing along an invaluable gift:  the ability to laugh when things didn't go as planned.
I guess that you could say that his motto was:
"When the going gets tough, the tough start laughing."
